On February 13, the 3# maintenance and traffic tunnel of the Luotian Reservoir–Tiegang Reservoir water conveyance tunnel project, constructed by Sinohydro Bureau 14 Co., Ltd., saw its open-type TBM "Luotie No. 4" surpass 3,000 meters of excavation, further accelerating the project's construction.

The "Luotie No. 4" TBM has a total excavation length of 4,564.98 meters. Since its launch on July 30, 2024, it has averaged 15 meters of excavation per day, with a single-day maximum of 44.7 meters. Over 200 days, its excavation mileage broke through the 3,000-meter mark, completing 65% of the total progress. As an open-type TBM operation, seepage and fissure water problems are particularly prominent during tunnel excavation, posing severe challenges to construction progress and safety management. The project team organized technical research and adopted measures such as advanced water detection and grouting reinforcement to improve the stability of the tunnel surrounding rock. At the same time, it strengthened drainage system management and optimized the muck transport system to improve mucking efficiency, providing strong guarantees for continuous and efficient excavation.

The Luotian Reservoir–Tiegang Reservoir water conveyance tunnel project is a major livelihood project in Shenzhen. Its main construction task is to build a water conveyance tunnel 21.68 kilometers long with a flow cross-section diameter of 5.2 meters more than 50 meters underground. Once completed, the project can supply water to the Luotian Water Plant, Wuzhipa Water Plant, and Changliupi Water Plant, establishing a dual water source guarantee system with the East River and West River in parallel. It will effectively serve more than 6 million permanent residents in the western area of Shenzhen and solve the current problem of water supply shortage in Shenzhen.
