On February 14, the reporter learned from the Passenger Station Construction Command of China Railway Chengdu Group Co., Ltd. that the first cover slab of the elevated plaza in the Chengdu Railway Station capacity expansion and renovation project had been poured, marking the basic completion of the foundation pit works in the second phase of the project and the completion of the main structure of the south station building, and the project has now entered the construction stage of the elevated plaza.

　　According to Wang Lun, Party branch secretary of the station building project department of Chengdu Railway Station under China Railway No. 8 Engineering Group, the elevated plaza in the second phase of the Chengdu Railway Station capacity expansion and renovation project comprises 43 floor slabs in total, each with an area of about 1,600 square meters. The pouring of the first cover slab marks the official start of the topping-out of the main structure of the elevated plaza, laying the foundation for achieving the transition of railway lines within the year.

　　"Chengdu Metro Line 1, Line 7 and the existing railway lines overlap in a 'three-line' configuration underground, and the pile foundations are only 4 meters away from the metro tunnel at the closest point." Discussing the difficulties of foundation pit construction, Yang Jie, chief engineer of the station building project department of Chengdu Railway Station under China Railway No. 8 Engineering Group, explained that in order to ensure that pile foundation construction and foundation pit excavation would not disturb Chengdu Metro Line 1, they adopted a full-casing follow-up construction technique together with 24-hour automated displacement monitoring, thereby ensuring metro safety.

　　Relocation and protective construction of utility pipelines on the west side of the site are also underway. In addition, to address issues such as noise, dust and wastewater during construction, the project innovatively adopted an "intelligent dust suppression" model to keep the PM2.5 concentration at the site within the prescribed limits.

　　As an important node of the national "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network, the Chengdu Railway Station capacity expansion and renovation project includes railway station buildings, an elevated plaza, rail transit and other sections. Once completed, it will achieve "zero-transfer" connectivity among intercity high-speed rail, municipal express rail, metro and buses, and become the core hub of the "one-hour commuting circle" of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.
