Walking along the only village road in Yangmeiling Village, heading deeper into the village, passing through it, the path extends into tea gardens and mountain forests. Near the foot of the mountain, a narrow hiking trail winds up the slope. Its fresh, whitish color tells us it's a newly paved trail.

Recently, the reporter learned that Xihu Subdistrict plans to repair, renovate, and construct 30 mountain forest hiking trails in scenic villages within the next 3 years, with a total length of 24,770 meters.

The mountain ascended by the trail is called Yangmei Mountain, named for the large number of bayberry trees planted on its steep slopes. "There are 50 mu of bayberry fields here, with over 1,500 bayberry trees planted," said Ying Zufa, Party Secretary of Yangmeiling Village, pointing to the lush bayberry trees on the slope. The first batch of bayberry trees planted in Yangmeiling in 2006 are all in this area.

The trees were planted long ago, but the fruit yield is not high. "This year's fruits are relatively small," Ying Zufa said, but they taste very fresh and sweet. However, to create a grand spectacle, it still needs more time.

To improve the bayberry variety, the village has just grafted new branches this year for variety improvement. The village hopes that next year's bayberries will be large and sweet.

This trail was built to complement the bayberries. "There was no path here before; it's all newly made. Without the trail, tourists couldn't 'tour' here; now with the trail, it's better." The trail is 400 meters long in total. Due to the steep terrain, the trail is also somewhat steep. Currently, not many tourists come up, but villagers have long since explored the new path.

With the trail built, firstly, it's convenient for villagers to manage the bayberries; secondly, if bayberry tourism really takes off in the future, citizens and tourists will have access. "In the future, we can develop bayberry picking tours," Ying Zufa said. This is, after all, a bayberry orchard in Hangzhou city.

"The current trail is not fully completed; we plan to extend it along the mountainside of Yangmei Mountain..." Ying Zufa said.

Not only Yangmeiling but also several villages like Wengjia Mountain will have their trails upgraded.

During grassroots research visits, Xihu Subdistrict found that the mountain forest hiking trail system in the West Lake Scenic Area is becoming more complete. The integration of scenic area mountain trails with the special tourism of scenic villages, building tourist sightseeing routes that meet scenic area requirements, has become a popular highlight welcomed by both villagers and tourists.

These trails will serve two purposes. First, they make it convenient for villagers to go up and down the mountain to manage tea gardens; second, they provide new routes for citizens and tourists to exercise and keep fit.

It is reported that Xihu Subdistrict has planned a detailed implementation plan for the continuation of mountain sightseeing road projects in the next 3 years: in 2014, implement 12 trails including Shifeng Mountain, with a length of 10,220 meters; in 2015, implement 9 trails including Sunjia Mountain, with a length of 8,250 meters; in 2016, implement 9 trails including Qinglong Mountain, with a length of 6,300 meters. The plan is to repair, renovate, and construct a total of 30 mountain trails within 3 years, involving 9 villages and 1 joint-stock economic cooperative, with a total length of 24,770 meters.

Ten-Mile Langdang is a unique mountain ridge embedded in the West Lake mountains, with an open field of vision, clear and tranquil beauty. Looking far into the distance, the tea gardens covering the mountains are refreshing. It is currently one of the most popular West Lake mountain tourist destinations among Hangzhou citizens and tourists. It can be foreseen that future Hangzhou will have more such forest mountain paths, allowing you to experience the feeling of "walking all over the green mountains without growing old."
