As a major national water-conservation and water-supply project and an important component of the 38 projects for further harnessing the Huai River, today (the 29th),the Phase II project of the Huai River Sea-Entry Waterway was successfully closed off (intercepted) at the Huai'an junction of the waterway,laying the foundation for navigation through the temporary navigable open channel of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and for construction of the main structure of the interchange culvert, and marking the entry of the Phase II project of the Huai River Sea-Entry Waterway into the peak period of main-structure construction.

The Huai River Sea-Entry Waterway is located in northern Jiangsu Province, starting in the west at the Dong'er River Sluice on the eastern side of Hongze Lake in the lower reaches of the Huai River, and flowing eastward into the Yellow Sea at Biandan Port in Binhai County, Yancheng City. In July 2022, the Phase II project of the Huai River Sea-Entry Waterway broke ground, with a planned construction period of 84 months. Once completed, the flood-discharge flow of the Huai River Sea-Entry Waterway will increase substantially from 2,270 cubic meters per second to 7,000 cubic meters per second.
