In the Future Sci-Tech City area of Yuhang District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, a magnificent building is quietly rising. At present, the first main unit of the supergravity centrifuge for the Zhejiang University Supergravity Project has been fully installed, and the remaining two supergravity centrifuge main units and 10 onboard devices have begun fabrication and manufacturing.

The National Major Science and Technology Infrastructure Project of the Supergravity Centrifugal Simulation and Experimental Facility is located in the Future Sci-Tech City area of Yuhang District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The supergravity experiment building mainly comprises two supergravity centrifuge main units—one high-load low-acceleration and one low-load high-acceleration—one model preparation machine, as well as six supergravity experiment chambers for slope and high dam, geotechnical seismic engineering, deep-sea engineering, deep-earth engineering and environment, geological processes, and material preparation, along with the supergravity test support system. The supergravity centrifugal simulation and experimental facility is a major piece of equipment that constructs an experimental environment for multiphase medium motion spanning time scales from transient to ten thousand years, spatial scales from atomic level to kilometer level, and conditions from ambient temperature and pressure to high temperature and high pressure. With it, the spatiotemporal compression of "a glance spanning ten thousand years" or "a thousand miles in a single step" can be simulated in the laboratory—truly, "one day in the mountains, a thousand years in the world."

Since the start of construction, the project has consistently aimed to build a national premium project, strengthening overall coordination, optimizing construction organization, and working with real diligence to overcome difficulties. Faced with a tight construction schedule for the civil works and steel mesh shell, as well as the difficulties of multi-disciplinary cross-construction and process handovers, the project department adopted a "three-dimensional + planar" cross-operation approach, scientifically and rationally utilizing the limited construction time and space to achieve orderly linkage of all construction activities and improve construction efficiency. Breakthrough progress has been made in multiple key stages, including deep foundation pit excavation, centrifuge equipment foundation pouring, and large-span hyperbolic steel mesh shell construction, creating numerous construction achievements. In particular, the excavation depth of the deep foundation pit reached 38.3 meters, setting a record for the deepest foundation pit of a public building in Zhejiang Province; moreover, the innovative application of temperature-controlled crack prevention measures for the centrifuge equipment foundation and underground structure construction techniques further demonstrates the project team's technical strength and innovative capability.

After the project is completed, it will fill the gap in China's ultra-large-capacity supergravity experimental facilities, providing indispensable experimental means for studying the large spatiotemporal evolution of geotechnical bodies and deep earth materials and accelerating material phase separation. It will provide an advanced experimental platform and foundational support for the conduct of major national science and technology tasks, the research, development, and verification of new technologies for major engineering projects, and the development of frontier material science, significantly enhancing China's research level and international competitiveness in related multidisciplinary fields.
