On November 25,The Liujiacun Tunnel, a key control project of the Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project, a major national water conservancy project, was successfully holed through, marking a new breakthrough at a major critical node of the Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project.

As one of the key control routes of the entire Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project, the Liujiacun Tunnel has a total length of 12,593 meters and a design flow rate of 115 cubic meters per second. The construction area consists of typical Central Yunnan red-bed soft rock, which softens upon contact with water and has poor stability, making it prone to deformation, collapse, and frequent mud and water inrushes. In response, the construction unit specially established a technical research team to strengthen scientific research, explore and study the deformation characteristics of tunnels in Central Yunnan red-bed soft rock and construction stability control technologies, promptly adjust support parameters, strengthen surrounding rock monitoring and measurement and advanced geological forecasting, and successfully overcome technical difficulties such as subsidence, deformation, and collapse caused by the special geological conditions.

The Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project is a landmark project among the 172 major water conservation and water supply projects designated by the State Council, and is also the largest and most heavily invested water resource allocation project in Southwest China. The project passes through Lijiang City, Dali Prefecture, Chuxiong Prefecture, Kunming City, and Yuxi City, with a total water conveyance line length of approximately 664 kilometers. Once completed, the project will greatly alleviate the difficulties of urban production and domestic water use in the Central Yunnan region, benefiting more than 11 million people.
