Recently, the O&M team of Sinohydro Bureau 10 at the Nam Ngum 4 Hydropower Station conducted operations and maintenance training for Électricité du Laos, further deepening cooperation and promoting shared prosperity and joint development under the Belt and Road Initiative.
This training was carried out by the Nam Ngum 4 Hydropower Station O&M team in cooperation with China National Heavy Machinery Corporation, with the aim of comprehensively improving the theoretical and technical proficiency of Électricité du Laos's O&M team and helping Laos build a highly skilled and efficiently managed power operations and maintenance workforce. The training content was determined in advance after soliciting input from Électricité du Laos and was tailored to Laos's actual water resource conditions. It covered hydropower station equipment inspection, routine checkups, fault diagnosis and handling, and safety operating procedures, and focused on the pressing issues in hydropower station management in Laos. The training combined theoretical study with on-site hands-on practice, received close cooperation from the relevant teams of Électricité du Laos, and achieved good results. During the training, the expert team from Sinohydro Bureau 10 also proposed revisions to Électricité du Laos's institutional frameworks such as O&M inspection and checkup forms, helping improve the quality of Électricité du Laos's project management through attention to detail and achieving the effect of "teaching others to fish."
Located in northern Laos, the Nam Ngum 4 Hydropower Station is the fourth cascade hydropower station on the upper reaches of the Nam Ngum River, with a total installed capacity of 240 MW and three 80 MW Francis turbine-generator units. It is one of the core power stations in Laos's power grid. The O&M guidance and training have laid a solid foundation for Électricité du Laos to independently operate and maintain the station and generate power, and have also provided technical support for economic development in Laos and the wider region, reflecting international cooperation and social responsibility under the Belt and Road Initiative.
