Recently, at the construction site of the Xiaohai Tide Barrier Reinforcement Project in Wanning City, vehicles shuttled back and forth and various machines roared, creating a busy yet orderly scene. Workers are mustering all their energy to race against time and speed up progress, ensuring that the construction of the relevant wave walls and the graded crushed stone backfilling tasks are completed before the rainy season.

The Xiaohai tide barrier undertakes the task of protecting multiple villages and towns as well as farmland in the area around Xiaohai in Wanning City, protecting a population of 79,200 people and a farmland area of 56,000 mu. A relevant person in charge from the contractor China Water Resources and Hydropower Ninth Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd. told reporters that the project did not stop work throughout the National Day holiday, with more than 200 people and over 30 machines deployed every day. Through labor competitions and "contracted responsibility" activities, and on the premise of ensuring safety and quality, 24-hour operations were adopted to go all out to ensure safety, grasp quality, and boost progress.

It is reported that the project adopts the EPC general contracting model, with a total investment of 873 million yuan. It mainly involves the reinforcement and new construction of a tide barrier with a total length of about 36.43 km (33.44 km of tide barrier and 2.99 km of tide wall), a designed crest width of 4.5-8 m, and a tide protection standard of once in 20 years. It also includes supporting facilities such as newly built and reconstructed drainage sluices, drainage culverts, new bridges, and new flood-control road connecting lines. After completion, the project will improve the tide protection capacity of the Xiaohai area and ensure the safety of towns, villages, and farmland within the embankment.
