Recently, the Shanghai Municipal Railway Nanhui Branch Line Bid 5 achieved new construction progress. With the smooth reception of the first 9-meter-class earth pressure balance shield machine "Donglin No. 1" on the entire line at Lingang Comprehensive Zone Station, it marks the successful breakthrough of the right-line tunnel from Dongda Highway Station to Lingang Comprehensive Zone Station, which is also the first tunnel on the Nanhui Branch Line to complete breakthrough.

In the shield-driven section of Bid 5 from Dongda Highway Station to Lingang Comprehensive Zone Station, the left line is about 719.4 meters long and the right line about 714.7 meters long. The tunnel longitudinal slope is a one-way slope, with a maximum gradient of 8.43‰ and a minimum gradient of 2‰. The tunnel crown depth ranges from 6.4 meters to 9.4 meters, and one cross passage is provided. Two earth pressure balance shield machines with a diameter of 9.33 meters are used for construction in this section. Both lines are launched from Dongda Highway Station and advanced to Lingang Comprehensive Zone Station for reception. At present, the other shield machine "Donglin No. 2," responsible for advancing the left line of the section, is actively making various preparations for launch.

To ensure the timely, safe, and smooth reception of this shield machine, the project team strictly implemented the management policy of "safety first, prevention foremost, and combining prevention with treatment," continuously optimized the shield construction plan, carefully analyzed and assessed risk points, and conscientiously formulated emergency response plans for unexpected events, so as to minimize construction risks and hidden dangers caused by unfavorable factors such as shallow cover and high groundwater levels. Through scientific organization and strengthened control, the team solidly, deeply, and meticulously carried out each key link in the shield construction process, continuously improving the level of automation and construction efficiency, thus laying a solid foundation for the smooth reception of the first shield machine on the entire line.

The Nanhui Branch Line has a total length of about 34.86 kilometers, including a main line of about 27.88 kilometers and an east branch line of about 6.98 kilometers. A total of 6 stations are set along the entire line, and the maximum operating speed of trains is 160 kilometers per hour. After the project is completed, it will become a rapid connection channel between the Lingang Special Area and the Pudong Hub, Hongqiao Hub, and Shanghai's main urban area. As an important support for the Lingang Special Area to radiate into the Yangtze River Delta, it will help the Lingang Special Area realize the function of an international open hub featuring "internal and external connectivity and land-sea-air linkage."
