The first phase of the State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) Guangxi Bailong Nuclear Power Project was fully launched on the 11th and is expected to be completed and put into operation by 2030.
The Bailong Nuclear Power Project is located at the southernmost tip of Jiangshan Peninsula in Fangchenggang City, Guangxi. It is planned to build six million-kilowatt-class nuclear power units, with a total installed capacity of 8.62 million kilowatts and a total investment of approximately 120 billion yuan. The first phase of the project adopts independently designed and domestically produced third-generation advanced nuclear power technology, with a single unit capacity of 1.25 million kilowatts.
Ding Weimin, chairman of SPIC Guangxi Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., introduced that after the two units of the first phase are completed and put into operation, the annual power generation will be approximately 20 billion kilowatt-hours, which can reduce standard coal consumption by about 6 million tons and carbon dioxide emissions by about 16 million tons per year. The emission reduction effect is equivalent to planting about 44,000 hectares of broadleaf forest.
It is reported that the first phase of the Bailong Nuclear Power Project introduces private capital to participate in the nuclear power project, providing an effective example for the integrated development of state-owned capital and private capital.
