On September 5, the right-line shield machine for the section from Changle Road Station to No. 8 Wharf Station on Qingdao Metro Line 5 was officially launched.

Since the start of construction, in response to the multiple major risks associated with the section being crossed beneath, the contractor took full account of them during the shield machine manufacturing stage and implemented intelligent measures such as automated monitoring, five-stage settlement control, advanced geological forecasting, real-time weighing of shield muck, and a shield gap measurement system. The Ba-Si section successfully completed safe undercrossing of multiple major risks, including the Jiaoji Railway, the Hang'an Elevated Road, the Party History Memorial Hall heritage building complex, and Haipo River, accumulating valuable experience for the subsequent risk-prone undercrossing construction in the Chang-Ba section.

The Chang-Ba section is 2.3 kilometers long in total. The shield machine was launched from Sifang Factory Station and bored to No. 8 Wharf Station, where it was pushed through the station without excavation and launched again. The contractor overcame difficulties such as cross-construction at the station and small reserved openings, fully leveraged the core competitiveness of the work teams, and completed steel sleeve reception and re-launch from the steel sleeve in 50 days, setting a new record. The Chang-Ba section passes beneath multiple railways and important facilities in the port area, and will also pass beneath the throat area of Qingdao (Gangwan Yard) Railway Station and the operating Line 4, placing higher requirements on shield machine performance and safety and quality control. During the station pass-through, the contractor invited experts and manufacturer personnel to make targeted improvements and upgrades to the equipment, meeting greater challenges in a completely renewed condition.

Qingdao Metro Line 5 is located in Qingdao's core urban area, starting at Maidao Station and ending at Yunling Road Station. It is a "C"-shaped line connecting the rail transit network of Qingdao's central area, with a total length of about 32.6 kilometers and 27 stations, including 12 transfer stations. It links 8 metro lines in Qingdao's central area and connects the three districts of Shinan, Shibei, and Laoshan, serving as a backbone rail transit line in the main urban area. After the line is completed and put into operation, it will enhance the networked operation function of the metro in the central urban area of the east coast and promote Qingdao's social and economic development.
