Recently, the Hubei Provincial Development and Reform Commission officially approved the reconstruction and expansion project of the Wuhan-Yichang section of the Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway. The project has an estimated total investment of 43.03597 billion yuan, and its approval marks an important step forward for Hubei Province in transportation infrastructure construction.

The project's capital fund is 8.60719 billion yuan, accounting for 20% of the total investment, and will be self-raised by Hubei Hanyi Expressway Co., Ltd. The remaining funds will be resolved through domestic bank loans applied for by the project legal entity. The reconstruction and expansion project starts in the west at Zhashan Subdistrict, Caidian District, Wuhan City, and ends in the east at the Gaojiadian Hub Interchange, Xiaoting District, Yichang City, with a main line length of approximately 265.7 kilometers. In addition, approximately 4.8 kilometers of Yichang connecting line and multiple interchange connecting lines will be built simultaneously.

The main line and connecting lines of the project will be reconstructed and expanded using the method of "mainly widening on both sides, with local unilateral widening," with a design speed of 120 km/h, a subgrade width of 42 meters, and the standard of a two-way, eight-lane expressway. A total of 27 interchanges will be set up along the entire route, and 19 ramp toll stations, 1 main line toll station, 5 service areas, 2 parking areas, 3 maintenance work areas, and 3 monitoring and management sub-centers, as well as related traffic engineering and roadside facilities, will be built simultaneously.

The Wuhan-Yichang section of the Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway is an important component of the national expressway network and carries enormous traffic volume. The implementation of the reconstruction and expansion project will significantly enhance the traffic capacity and service level of this section, alleviate traffic pressure, and promote regional economic development. At the same time, the construction of the project will also provide more convenient conditions for interconnection among cities along the route, further promoting the economic and social development of Hubei Province.

According to the plan, the project construction period is 48 months. This is a massive and complex project that requires close coordination and joint efforts from all parties.
