Recently, with the smooth completion of shield steel sleeve reception on the left line of the Songxi–Luochongwei section (hereinafter referred to as the "Songluo section"), Guangzhou Metro Line 13 Phase II has achieved the goal of full-line "tunnel breakthrough."

According to reports, the Songluo section starts from Songxi Station in the north and runs south along the underside of Zengcha Road, passing beneath several important structures before connecting to Luochongwei Station. The geological conditions in the section are complex, with "soft upper and hard lower" and "sand upper and rock lower" strata accounting for about 80% of the entire section. Karst is developed in the section, and there are multiple fault fracture zones. The sand layer is in direct contact with the moderately to slightly weathered limestone layer, making the construction process highly prone to settlement risks.
To overcome these difficulties, the Guangzhou Metro builders adopted a staggered-level launching scheme, adjusting the tunneling path of the right-line shield machine to reduce the length of the soft-upper/hard-lower section by 30%. During passage through unfavorable strata and structures, the builders carried out densified investigation of the section strata in advance, with one investigation every 5 meters, and pre-treated unfavorable geology such as karst caves and soil cavities and sand layers in advance to ensure the strata remained stable. Before passing beneath structures, raft foundations for buildings were added in advance, and pre-grouting was carried out on the ground to reinforce the soft soil beneath the foundation, ensuring the stability of building foundations.

The Line 13 Phase II project is large in scale, and during earthwork excavation and muck removal, roads must be frequently washed, resulting in high water pipe consumption and labor demand. In response, the construction units adopted multi-phase graded treatment technology for muck in the Chaoyang–Qingfeng section, Xizhou–Songxi section, and Yuzhu–Zhucun section respectively, carrying out reduction, resource utilization, and harmless treatment of shield muck, reducing the scale and difficulty of shield muck treatment, with a cumulative total of more than 250,000 cubic meters of muck treated.
The builders also innovatively developed a stowable and portable pipeline device, which not only saves labor costs and is convenient and quick, but also avoids pipeline damage. In addition, the construction units adopted shield self-reaction force station-passing technology at Tangxia Station, Huacheng Square North Station, and Shipai South Station respectively. Compared with traditional station-passing technology, this technology improves construction efficiency by an average of more than 3 times, greatly improving efficiency and significantly shortening the construction period.

The Line 13 Phase II route is the second main trunk line running east-west through the entire city. The line runs from west to east along multiple urban roads and is a pivotal east-west "major artery" in Guangzhou's rail transit network. Once completed, it will strengthen the functional capacity of Guangzhou Metro's core network and provide solid support for the city's rapid development.
As of now, the civil engineering works of Line 13 Phase II (Chaoyang–Yuzhu) have been completed 84% cumulatively. Of the 23 stations, 16 have been topped out and 7 are under civil construction; all 23 sections and the depot access lines have been tunneled through. Civil engineering and electromechanical construction are underway at Huanggang Depot and its cover structure, while Yuzhu Depot has been completed. Electromechanical installation and decoration construction have begun at 15 stations.
(Note: Some station names are provisional engineering names only; the standard station names shall be subject to those approved and announced by the municipal government.)
