On August 25, the main tunnel structure of the Phase I municipal integration project of the Hangzhou Municipal Seawall Safety Project (the seawall section from Sanbao to Qiaosi) was successfully holed through along its entire length. This was a full 30 days ahead of the original schedule, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent full opening of Zhijiang East Road.

As a core component of the Seawall Safety Project, the project has been listed by the province as a key construction project. Starting from the east of Pengbu Bridge in the west and ending at Hemu Port in the east, the approximately 4-kilometer-long Zhijiang East Road will undergo comprehensive upgrading and renovation. The newly built approximately 3.32-kilometer sunken tunnel will become an important passage connecting Shangcheng District and Qiantang New Area, greatly improving traffic conditions along the route and promoting regional integrated development. During construction, the project faced numerous challenges, including deep foundation pit construction in soft strata near the Qiantang River, protection of adjacent complex pipelines and important structures, and traffic diversion caused by the closure of Zhijiang East Road.

With the full holing-through of the main tunnel structure, the project has officially entered a new stage of electromechanical installation inside the tunnel, road restoration, and construction of supporting buildings and landscaping. In addition, the project will add one surface parking lot and three underground parking garages along the route, providing more than 470 new parking spaces in total, effectively alleviating the parking shortage in the surrounding area and further enhancing the region's overall carrying capacity.
