The tunnel is mainly composed of Class IV and V surrounding rock, and is a small-section water conservancy tunnel 3 m wide and 2.8 m high. The traditional drill-and-blast method has low efficiency and high cost. After study by the project department, it was finally decided to use the XCMG ** XTR4/260 cantilever tunnel boring machine, whose body is only 2.1 m wide, for construction.

The XCMG XTR4/260 tunnel boring machine has the narrowest body in China and is equipped with a large-taper cutting head, featuring high cutting force, strong rock-breaking capability, and low cutting vibration. It performs particularly well in controlling overbreak and underbreak, saving a large amount of shotcrete. The packing seat adopts a spiral sealing structure, effectively preventing dust ingress and enhancing product reliability. The use of mechanical excavation effectively reduces the labor intensity of frontline workers.

It is reported that this project is one of the "172" major water conservancy projects designated by the State Council, and is also an important component of Sichuan Province's "five horizontal and six vertical" water diversion and replenishment ecological water network. XCMG's tunnel boring machine has delivered efficient construction and won unanimous praise from customers, earning acclaim for the XCMG brand.
