On August 27, the Gaoshao Tunnel of the Xi'an-Yan'an High-Speed Railway, constructed by China Railway Sixth Group Co., Ltd. under the commissioning of the Xi'an-Chengdu Passenger Dedicated Line Shaanxi Company, was successfully holed through, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent construction of ballastless track and the opening of the entire line to traffic. As of now, all 9 high-risk tunnels of the Xi'an-Yan'an High-Speed Railway have been holed through.

It is understood that the Gaoshao Tunnel of the Xi'an-Yan'an High-Speed Railway is located within Ganquan County, Yan'an City, with a total length of 6,824.60 meters, and is a single-tube double-track tunnel. The tunnel passes through the loess ridge and gully region, where geological conditions are complex. It is one of the 9 high-risk tunnels of the Xi'an-Yan'an High-Speed Railway with high safety risks, great construction difficulty and a long construction period, and is also one of the control works of the Xi'an-Yan'an High-Speed Railway.

To ensure the safe advancement of tunnel construction, the Xi'an-Chengdu Passenger Dedicated Line Shaanxi Company, aiming to build a quality project, organized the design, construction and supervision units to carry out technical research, continuously deepened grid-based management and penetrating labor management, reasonably divided grid units and assigned grid management personnel, and promptly investigated and eliminated safety hazards. It coordinated and controlled the construction progress, closely monitored the connection of each process, and adjusted techniques to improve work efficiency. Based on the actual surrounding rock conditions on site, advanced geological forecasting and advanced drilling results, it adjusted the tunnel support parameters in real time and optimized and adjusted the on-site construction plan, successfully achieving the holing-through of the Gaoshao Tunnel.

The Xi'an-Yan'an High-Speed Railway is the first high-speed railway in the old revolutionary base area of northern Shaanxi, an important component of the Baotou (Yinchuan)-Haikou High-Speed Railway corridor of the national high-speed railway network, and together with the Xi'an-Chongqing High-Speed Railway under construction forms a major north-south corridor. It is an important constituent of the main framework of Shaanxi Province's "rice-shaped" high-speed railway network and a key construction project during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. The line has a total length of 299.8 kilometers, is built to the standard of a double-track high-speed railway, and has a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. After the line is completed and put into operation, the travel time from Xi'an to Yan'an will be shortened from the current 2.5 hours to about 1 hour, which is of great significance for further advancing the Western Development Strategy, helping rural revitalization in the old revolutionary base areas, accelerating the construction of the Baotou-Haikou High-Speed Railway corridor, further improving and optimizing the layout of the national high-speed railway network, and enhancing Shaanxi Province's locational advantages and its hub status in the national railway network.
