On August 26, the reporter learned from China Railway Shanghai Group Co., Ltd. that at around 12:00 on August 24, the pouring of the last bored pile with a diameter of 3.5 meters for Main Pier No. 6 of the Taoyaomen Road-Rail Dual-Purpose Bridge on the Ningbo-Zhoushan Railway was completed, marking the full completion of the pile foundation works for this main pier and its formal transition to the overwater construction stage, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent construction of the main pier cap.

As one of the key projects of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Railway, the Taoyaomen Road-Rail Dual-Purpose Bridge has a total length of approximately 1,531 meters, of which the combined road-rail section is 1,066 meters long, connecting Cezi Island and Fuchi Island. The main bridge adopts a hybrid box girder cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 666 meters, the world's first three-box separated hybrid girder cable-stayed bridge; the road and railway are arranged on the same level, with the railway designed as a double-track line arranged in the middle at a design speed of 250 km/h, and the highway designed as a two-way six-lane expressway arranged in separate carriageways on both sides at a design speed of 100 km/h, making it the world's largest-span road-rail dual-purpose hybrid girder cable-stayed bridge; the main girder of the central span adopts separated steel box girders, while the main girder of the side spans adopts concrete box girders with a width of 66 meters, the world's widest separated concrete box girder.

The Taoyaomen Road-Rail Dual-Purpose Bridge has two main piers, No. 5 and No. 6. Pier No. 6 is located on the seaside steep slope on the Fuchi Island side, where the ground elevation within the foundation area varies greatly; the sea cliffs are distributed mainly in the NE and E-W directions, the bedrock is severely affected by marine erosion, the rock mass in local joint zones within the bedrock is relatively fractured, and the slightly weathered rock surface undulates greatly with uneven layer thickness. To adapt to terrain changes and reduce mountain excavation, the foundation of Main Pier No. 6 adopts a stepped enlarged foundation composed of 5 bored piles with a diameter of 3.5 meters, with a trestle bridge provided on the seaside, and the foundation construction adopts a land-based construction scheme of slope excavation plus local island reclamation.

To ensure the smooth implementation of pile foundation construction, the construction management unit, Shanghai-Hangzhou Passenger Dedicated Line Co., Ltd., together with the project department of China Railway Construction Bridge Engineering Bureau Group, optimized the construction organization plan according to pile diameter and geological conditions. From drilling, hole formation, hole cleaning, and rebar cage installation to pouring, the pile foundation construction implemented all-round standardized management to ensure smooth process衔接 and first-time quality.

The 76.4-kilometer Ningbo-Zhoushan Railway starts from Ningbo East Station in the west, passes through Yinzhou District and Beilun District of Ningbo City, runs through the newly built Jintang Subsea Tunnel to Jintang Island of Zhoushan City, crosses the newly built sea-crossing bridge to Cezi Island and Zhoushan Main Island, and finally reaches Baiquan Town of Dinghai District. It has 7 stations: Ningbo East, Yunlong, Qiu'ai, Beilun West, Jintang, Ma'ao, and Zhoushan, with a design speed of 250 km/h. It is a high-speed railway mainly serving medium- and long-distance tourist passenger flows while also accommodating intercity passenger flows between Zhoushan and Ningbo, and is also intended to build Zhejiang Province's "1-hour traffic circle" and form a convenient passenger transport corridor between the mainland and Zhoushan Island.
