Beijing, August 26 (Xinhua) -- Reykjavik News: Icelandic police said on the 26th that an ice cave collapse in the southeast of the country on the 25th has killed one person and left two others missing.

According to Agence France-Presse, Icelandic police said in a statement that an ice cave in Vatnajökull National Park suddenly collapsed on the afternoon of the 25th. At the time, 25 tourists were visiting the site accompanied by one guide, and four of them were trapped beneath the ice.

According to Iceland's national broadcaster RUV, two of the four trapped tourists have been found. One died of severe injuries, and the other, seriously injured, was flown by helicopter to a hospital and is currently in stable condition. Rescuers are still searching for the other two missing people.

The report said all those involved in the accident were foreign tourists, whose nationalities have not yet been released. The other surviving tourists received psychological care locally on the evening of the 25th.

According to The Associated Press, Icelandic police said that due to harsh nighttime conditions, the rescue operation was suspended on the evening of the 25th but resumed on the morning of the 26th. Rescuers said on the 26th that the weather that day was good and suitable for search and rescue, but because of the rugged terrain near the ice cave, it was difficult to transport large ice-breaking machines to the site, so rescuers could only break the ice with hand tools, and the operation faced difficulties.

Vatnajökull National Park offers glacier hiking and ice cave exploration services and is a tourist destination in Iceland.
