Recently, the left tube of Hecang No. 2 Tunnel on the Lianshan–Hezhou Expressway (Guangxi Section) (hereinafter referred to as the Lianhe Expressway) was successfully holed through. With this, all 13 tunnels along the entire Lianhe Expressway have achieved breakthrough.

It is understood that Hecang No. 2 Tunnel is a separated double-tube tunnel, with the right tube 1,036 meters long and the left tube 1,058 meters long, and a maximum burial depth of 161 meters. It is located in a tectonically denuded low-mountain hilly landform, where the mudstone layer is dominated by sandstone with locally intercalated thin layers of shale; the rock mass is fractured, making construction extremely difficult.

Construction workers use an advanced geological drilling rig to probe the surrounding rock conditions ahead of the tunnel face.

At present, only 145 meters of the right tube of Hecang No. 2 Tunnel on the Lianhe Expressway remain to be holed through. All builders of the project will further anchor to the milestone targets and make every effort to advance the full-tube breakthrough of all tunnels along the line, laying a solid foundation for the project to be completed and opened to traffic on schedule.
