On August 9, with the completion of the pouring of the last main structure base slab, the Huoju Station, a station in deep soft soil strata on the Zhongshan section of the Nanzhu (Zhongshan) Intercity Railway project, successfully completed its base slab sealing.

Huoju Station has a total length of 272 meters and a width of 29.5 meters, with 4 entrances/exits, 2 groups of ventilation shafts, and 2 safety evacuation openings. The excavation depth of the standard section is about 27.25 meters, and the cumulative excavation volume is about 230,000 cubic meters, making it the station with the deepest foundation pit on the entire Nanzhu (Zhongshan) Intercity line.

The station is located in the alluvial geology of the Xijiang River estuary, and the foundation pit is constructed under geological conditions of alternating cohesive soil and sandy soil and deep silt layers. It also involves the relocation and modification of nearly 1,700 meters of multiple pipelines, including rainwater, water supply, gas, communications, and sewage, making construction extremely difficult. Guangzhou Metro organized China Communications Construction Company, CCCC First Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd., China Railway Jinan Engineering Construction Supervision, and China Railway Design Group to optimize resource allocation, carry out work planning and safety briefings, and ensure that foundation pit excavation is strictly carried out according to the plan. During foundation pit excavation, on-site construction organization and deployment were strengthened, key and difficult links were identified through reverse scheduling, and the foundation pit support and excavation construction plans were optimized. By optimizing the mud mix ratio, the stability of the diaphragm wall trench was ensured. Safety control during the earthwork excavation stage and foundation pit monitoring management were continuously strengthened, and the skip-lot excavation method was adopted. For processes with long unsupported time, such as reinforced concrete support construction and base slab construction when the foundation pit reaches the bottom, temporary steel supports were installed within the concrete support construction area to ensure excavation safety.

The builders organized special planning and technical briefings multiple times, scientifically formulated the pouring plan, and strictly controlled key processes such as pouring time, pouring speed, and concrete vibration. After two months of continuous construction, more than 25,000 cubic meters of concrete and 6,000 tons of steel rebar were used in total, and all indicators during pouring met the expected standards, successfully achieving the station's base slab sealing.

Up to now, the civil engineering works of the Guangzhou section of the Nansha-Zhuhai (Zhongshan) Intercity Railway (Wanqingsha-Xingzhong section) have been completed 44%. Civil engineering construction is underway at all 3 stations and 3 sections; a total of 13 shield tunneling machines are currently tunneling. The civil engineering works of the Zhongshan section have been completed 16%. Of the 9 stations, 7 are under civil engineering construction and 2 are in preliminary preparation; of the 9 sections, 3 are under civil engineering construction and the rest are carrying out pre-construction preparation, with a total of 2 shield tunneling machines currently tunneling.
