On August 7, with a huge blast, the inclined shafts of the Shantou Bay Tunnel constructed by the Guang'ao Port Area Railway Project of China Railway 14th Bureau Group were successfully connected, marking a phased victory in the construction of the Shantou Bay Tunnel. As of now, the Shantou Bay Tunnel has been excavated 5,325 meters, completing more than half of the task.

Smooth connection between Inclined Shaft No. 1 and Inclined Shaft No. 2

As the first undersea tunnel in China to carry both passenger and freight traffic, the Shantou Bay Tunnel has a total length of 9,965 meters. It is located in an area with a seismic intensity of 8 degrees and passes through 20 fault fracture zones. The geological structure and hydrogeological conditions are complex, with a maximum burial depth of 157 meters and high construction safety risks, making it a key and difficult control project of the project.

Support of the large-chainage working face of Inclined Shaft No. 2

In order to meet the overall construction schedule requirements of the entire line and shorten the construction time, the tunnel adopts the open-cut + shield + mining method. Among them, the mining section has 5 working faces under simultaneous construction, greatly accelerating the construction progress of the Shantou Bay Tunnel.

Facing complex geological structures such as fault fracture zones, the project adopted advanced geological prediction and other means to detect the geological surrounding rock conditions in advance, adjust excavation parameters and support parameters in a timely manner, and provide a strong guarantee for the safe and smooth connection of the tunnel. The project construction is progressing in an orderly manner.
