In the scorching summer heat, a scene of bustling activity unfolds at the construction site of the Guizhou Power Grid 500 kV Renyi Power Transmission and Transformation Project and its transmission line construction — a key project of China Southern Power Grid located in Balin Town, Xingren City, Qianxinan Prefecture, Guizhou Province. The builders are battling the high temperatures and scorching heat, racing against time to advance the project schedule.
　　Stepping into the construction site of the 500 kV Renyi Substation, more than 300 workers are full of vigor, and the roar of machinery and the sound of steel frame cutting intertwine, like a stirring symphony of construction. Wearing safety helmets and work uniforms, the workers are busily engaged under the blazing sun. Huge tower cranes stretch out their long arms, hoisting various building materials; the arcs from the welders' hands flicker like stars in the night sky...
　　In order to meet the need for transmitting clean energy from the Xingyi area and to improve the safety and stability of system operation, China Southern Power Grid's Guizhou Power Grid Company planned and built the 500 kV Renyi Power Transmission and Transformation Project. As an important component of Guizhou Power Grid's 500 kV backbone grid of "three horizontals, two connections and one center," construction of the project began in April 2023.
　　"At present, the project has carried out electrical installation work on a large scale, with overall progress at 82%, and it is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of October this year," introduced Liu Mingzhong, project manager of the 500 kV Renyi Power Transmission and Transformation Project of Guizhou Power Grid Construction Branch Company. The project will add one new substation, build a new line with a total length of 56.9 kilometers, and erect 123 new towers.
　　"After the 500 kV Renyi Power Transmission and Transformation Project is completed, it will further improve the power grid framework of Qianxinan Prefecture, effectively enhance the long-term adaptability of Qianxinan Prefecture's 500 kV main grid, further strengthen the grid's ability to withstand natural disasters, reduce operational accident risks, and improve the safety and reliability of power supply." According to Fu Wanming, deputy general manager of the Infrastructure Department of Guizhou Power Grid Company, the project construction has substantially improved the region's capacity to absorb clean energy, accommodating 3,609 megawatts of clean energy grid connection in Qianxinan Prefecture, promoting the green, low-carbon and circular development of energy in Qianxinan Prefecture, and accelerating the building of a new-type power system with new energy as the main body.
　　At the same time, it meets the system connection needs of the Xingren Power Plant and the expanded reproduction of the Xingren Denggao Aluminum Plant, providing strong power support for Qianxinan Prefecture's "strengthening the prefecture through industry" and helping Qianxinan Prefecture achieve new leaps in high-quality development.
　　At another key transmission line project construction site, Zheng Shiyin, project manager of the 500 kV Weihe Power Plant Transmission Project of Guizhou Power Grid Company, is inspecting the project site together with staff members, making full preparations for the project's commissioning.
　　The 500 kV Weihe Power Plant Transmission Project is an important component of Guizhou Power Grid's construction plan during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period. The project expands one 500 kV outgoing line bay at the Shexiang 500 kV Substation and builds a new 138.75-kilometer 500 kV line to the Weihe Power Plant; it also expands one 500 kV outgoing line bay at the Wusa 500 kV Substation and builds a new 56.53-kilometer 500 kV line to the Weihe Power Plant. At present, the project has completed acceptance and is expected to be put into operation by the end of July.
　　"After the Weihe Power Plant is completed in the later stage, the project can meet the need for power transmission, realize the efficient and clean utilization of high-sulfur anthracite, promote green and low-carbon power development, and is of great significance to the west-to-east power transmission, clean energy absorption, and the promotion of 'carbon neutrality' and 'carbon peaking.'" said Fu Wanming.
