On July 25, the 14th session of the "My Technology, My Voice" series of events organized by the Foundation College came to a successful conclusion! This session invited Dr. Liu Penghui from the Institute of Foundation Engineering of the China Academy of Building Research and Jianyan Foundation Engineering Co., Ltd., who delivered a splendid knowledge feast to the engineering and technical community on the topic of "Overall Foundation Design Technology for Thick Rafts of Large Podiums under the Action of Multiple Tower Buildings."

Focusing on New Demands, Addressing New Challenges
Starting from the new demands and new problems in foundation engineering, Dr. Liu Penghui conducted an in-depth discussion of key issues such as the foundation design for multiple high-rise or multi-story buildings constructed on the same large-area integral foundation, and the elimination of settlement post-cast strips between main and podium buildings to achieve integral connection. Drawing on the research achievements of the Institute of Foundation Engineering of the China Academy of Building Research over many years on the interaction between superstructures, foundations, and subgrade for buildings of complex configuration, he explained in detail the distribution patterns of base reaction and deformation of integral large-area raft foundations supporting multiple buildings, and explored interaction analysis methods and foundation models.

Deep Integration of Theory and Practice
Combining actual engineering cases, Dr. Liu Penghui shared experience in determining the location of settlement post-cast strips, calculating the foundation bearing capacity of individual high-rise buildings, and analyzing the foundation reaction of large-podium underground structures. He emphasized that in engineering design, the interaction among the superstructure, foundation, and subgrade should be fully considered, and that the principles of soil compensation and the limited diffusion of high-rise loads should be used to solve the problems of raft settlement and differential settlement over large areas. At the same time, he proposed using the characteristic of the limited influence distance of high-rise load diffusion and adopting the superposition principle to solve the raft settlement calculation problem under multiple high-rise buildings, optimizing the anti-floating design, and ensuring that the design of large-area raft foundations under high-rise buildings (groups) meets the requirements.

Knowledge Sharing, Jointly Promoting Development
This live broadcast attracted the attention of numerous engineering and technical personnel, who all expressed that they had benefited greatly. Dr. Liu Penghui's excellent sharing not only provided valuable experience for engineering practice but also pointed out the direction for theoretical research in the field of foundation engineering. In the future, the Foundation College will continue to hold more exciting online events to provide a platform for learning and exchange for engineering and technical personnel and to jointly promote the development of the industry.
