On the morning of July 21, after 290 days and nights of continuous effort, the Ziluoshan No. 3 Tunnel on the Xiong'an New Area–Xinzhou High-Speed Railway (Shanxi section), built under the agency of the Datong–Xi'an Railway Passenger Dedicated Line Company and constructed by China Railway No. 3 Engineering Group, was successfully holed through, marking the smooth completion of another key project on the line and laying the foundation for opening up the passage for subsequent girder-erection work.

The Xiong'an–Xinzhou High-Speed Railway connects the Xiong'an New Area in Hebei Province with Xinzhou City in Shanxi Province, with a design speed of 350 km/h and a main line length of approximately 342 km, of which about 122 km lies within Shanxi Province. The Ziluoshan No. 3 Tunnel is located in the southeastern part of Ziluoshan in Wutai County, Shanxi Province; the tunnel has a total length of 836.57 meters and a maximum burial depth of 86.73 meters, with a longitudinal gradient of 30‰ downgrade throughout. The surrounding rock of the tunnel body is mainly Class IV and Class V rock, which is fractured and poor in stability, and the exit section consists of new loess, posing a relatively high risk of collapse during excavation.
Since the start of tunnel construction, the builders have employed multiple technical measures and means, including advanced geological forecasting, monitoring and measurement, and advanced support, to ensure tunnel construction safety. To ensure the safe breakthrough of the tunnel through the shallow-buried loess section, construction strictly followed the principles of "short advance, strong support, rapid sealing, and frequent measurement," achieving rapid excavation, rapid support, and timely sealing, thereby increasing the overall deformation resistance of the tunnel, successfully passing through the shallow-buried loess section, and safely achieving full tunnel breakthrough.
It is understood that the Xiong'an–Xinzhou High-Speed Railway is an important component of the Beijing–Kunming corridor of China's "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway network, and is also the first high-speed railway in Shanxi Province designed for a speed of 350 km/h. Once the project is completed, it will be of great significance for Shanxi to better integrate into the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei coordinated development strategy, strengthen the major corridor pattern of the central region, and promote high-quality regional economic and social development.
