In recent days, as temperatures have climbed and heat waves rolled in, builders at key project construction sites across Jiangsu have stood fast at the front line, going all out to advance project construction and ensure the projects are completed on schedule.

After 13 hours of intensive work, the expansion project of the Lianyungang-Huai'an section of the Changchun-Shenzhen Expressway successfully completed the centralized installation and demolition of nine branch overpass bridges, opening traffic ahead of schedule.

The Lianyungang-Huai'an section of the Changchun-Shenzhen Expressway is an important component of Jiangsu Province's "15 radial, 6 vertical, 10 horizontal" expressway network and is the economic and transportation "artery" connecting southern and northern Jiangsu. This centralized installation and demolition work involved the demolition of one prestressed cast-in-place box girder and six prestressed hollow slab girders, and the hoisting of box girders for two rebuilt overpass bridges. Traffic control covered a 70-kilometer area from the Guannan South Interchange to the Songtiao Interchange; with tight time, numerous procedures, and a wide work area, the hoisting operations, chiseling operations, guardrail construction, and other tasks carried high risks and heavy workloads. More than 300 workers and over 100 pieces of machinery and equipment were mobilized simultaneously, striving hard for 13 hours to carry out a "grand competition" of intensive installation and demolition construction on the nine overpass bridges. At the same time, taking advantage of the expressway closure window, work such as pouring at the traffic diversion openings, installation of overpass guardrails, and replacement of anti-glare panels was carried out to provide guarantees for the subsequent safe passage of vehicles.

To ensure the smooth progress of this bridge installation and demolition work, before construction the Beijing-Shanghai Lianhuai Expansion Command systematically planned and deployed in advance, organizing a "one road, multiple parties" traffic organization plan discussion meeting and conducting a special review of the traffic organization plan to ensure it was practical and feasible; it organized the construction units to hold special work arrangement meetings and technical disclosure meetings, refined the construction operation plan, task division table, and bridge demolition station layout diagram, and carried out entry acceptance and on-site inspections to ensure the demolition work was foolproof. During construction, methods such as chiseling, gas cutting, and water spraying for dust suppression were adopted; all procedures were closely connected, safety risks and dust pollution were preventable and controllable, and the installation and demolition work was completed with high quality and efficiency.

At present, the earthwork of the half-width mainline subgrade and the construction of medium and small bridges have basically been completed, and the project has fully entered the pavement construction stage. It is expected that the half-width intermediate surface course construction will be completed before the end of the year, with traffic conversion carried out in an orderly manner in stages and sections.

With the completion of concrete pouring for the last box girder, the prefabrication of 1,607 box girders for the Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway to the Yangtze River North Dike section of the Yizheng-Luhe Expressway was successfully completed.

The Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway to the Yangtze River North Dike section of the Yizheng-Luhe Expressway is an important component of Jiangsu's expressway network and also a component of the Nanjing metropolitan area ring line. The project starts in the north at the Tongshan Hub where it intersects with the Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway and connects in the south to the under-construction Longtan Yangtze River Bridge, with a total length of about 12.37 kilometers. The entire line is built to a two-way, six-lane expressway standard, with 6 mainline bridges, 3 interchanges, and 1 tunnel, with a bridge-tunnel ratio as high as 70%.

In the construction of the prefabricated girder yard, the project introduced intelligent CNC equipment to create a "smart girder yard" with low manual input, low safety risk, high construction quality, fast project progress, and good management efficiency. The box girder prefabrication in the girder yard fully adopted advanced "order-based production management technology" and "IoT full-process control technology." Relying on the "smart girder yard management system" platform, it achieved "online" management of the entire process from plan arrangement, pedestal allocation, order issuance, formwork opening and closing, concrete pouring, curing, tensioning, and grouting, and by implanting NFC chips into the box girders, it achieved visual girder locating during production and dynamic monitoring of the production process. The girder yard has a total of 6 mobile pedestal flow production lines, combining mobile pedestal and integral hydraulic side formwork production technology, and innovatively setting the side formwork arc corners on the mobile pedestal, greatly improving the versatility of the side formwork and achieving factory-based, flow-line, and intelligent operation for prefabricated box girders. Compared with traditional manual assembled formwork, production efficiency increased by 400%, producing an average of more than 100 box girders per month, greatly shortening the box girder production cycle.

Up to now, the project's bridge pile foundations, soft foundation treatment, and bridge substructure concrete construction have all been completed; subgrade earthwork and superstructure precast concrete construction have basically been completed; superstructure cast-in-place concrete and phase II tunnel engineering construction are proceeding in an orderly manner; and the pavement construction unit has entered the site.

In recent days, the construction site of the Huai'an Airport terminal area reconstruction and expansion project has been bustling, with workers standing fast at the front line under the scorching sun to ensure the project advances on schedule.

A person in charge of Huai'an Airport introduced: "Under the precondition of ensuring project safety and quality, we have increased construction personnel and machinery, with seamless connection between all trades and procedures. In nearly one month, we completed the water-stabilized base construction and earth surface leveling construction for eight remote stands, cumulatively completing 96.2% of the total construction volume."

To avoid personnel injuries, the project team formulated a series of heatstroke prevention and cooling measures: First, adhere to scientific "off-peak" construction. According to weather conditions and combined with construction procedure requirements, scientifically and reasonably organize construction arrangements and stagger high-temperature periods. Second, strengthen heatstroke prevention and cooling publicity and education. The airport medical emergency center was invited to carry out heatstroke prevention and cooling publicity for construction personnel and provide self-rescue and mutual-rescue skills training for conditions such as heatstroke that are likely to occur under high temperatures; free clinic activities were also carried out, providing free consultations for personnel with underlying issues such as high blood pressure and low blood sugar, along with medical recommendations. Third, fully equip heatstroke prevention and cooling medicines. Construction sites are equipped with cooling oils, Huoxiang Zhengqi water, Rendan, and other heatstroke prevention and cooling medicines, as well as regular cooling mung bean soup for workers to drink. Fourth, equip construction sites with heatstroke prevention and cooling booths. During construction breaks, construction personnel can rest and escape the heat in the booths.

Construction of the Phase II expansion project of Yangzhou Taizhou International Airport is in full swing. In the T2 terminal area, more than 20 tower cranes and large construction equipment are busy operating, and nearly 400 project builders are working intensively despite the high temperature and scorching heat. At the construction site of the elevated bridge and GTC project adjacent to the T2 terminal, multiple rotary drilling rigs are also carrying out pile foundation construction.

Up to now, the T2 terminal project is undergoing main structure construction; basement structure construction has been completed by 60%; civil engineering and steel structure construction of the north and south concourses has been completed by 70%; and more than half of the 138 steel structure columns have been hoisted. The main concrete structure capping of the terminal is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. "In response to the recent continuous high-temperature weather, the command center and participating units have dynamically adjusted personnel working hours according to trade and work location, avoiding high-temperature periods and staggering construction. The on-site rest area is also equipped with Huoxiang Zhengqi water, mung bean porridge, and other heatstroke prevention and cooling supplies, enabling workers to work safely and ensuring the project advances on schedule," said a person in charge of Yangzhou Taizhou International Airport.
