On the afternoon of July 5, a breach occurred in the first-line embankment of Dongting Lake in Tuanbei Village, Tuanzhou Township, Huarong County, Yueyang City, Hunan Province. The breach once expanded to 226 meters, flooding 47.64 square kilometers of the polder area and forcing the emergency evacuation of 7,680 people.

All parties involved in the emergency rescue adopted measures of "resting the personnel but not the machinery, with operations carried out in rotating shifts," advancing the breach closure work around the clock.
