Li Qiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, conducted a research visit in Suzhou, Jiangsu, from July 2 to 3. He emphasized the need to thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on accelerating the building of a modern industrial system, seize the opportunities of the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, adhere to innovation-driven development, strengthen scientific and technological empowerment, accelerate the digital transformation of manufacturing, promote the vigorous development of specialized, refined, distinctive and innovative (SRDI) enterprises, and inject strong momentum into building a modern industrial system and achieving high-quality economic development.

During the research visit, Li Qiang chaired a symposium. After listening to remarks by leaders of Jiangsu Province and some enterprises, Li Qiang pointed out that the digital transformation of manufacturing bears on the overall situation of building a modern industrial system and achieving high-quality economic development, and must be taken as an important task in building a manufacturing powerhouse and pursued earnestly and effectively. Efforts should be made on both the supply and demand sides: on the demand side, focus on common problems to identify entry points for transformation; on the supply side, vigorously cultivate specialized service providers. It is necessary to further advance AI empowerment and vigorously promote "AI+" manufacturing. The principal role of enterprises should be fully brought into play, encouraging large enterprises to take the lead in transformation and to guide and drive others, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in "moving to the cloud, using data and empowering intelligence." It is necessary to accelerate breakthroughs in key core technologies and the construction of digital infrastructure to solidify the foundation for transformation.

Li Qiang said that SRDI enterprises and "little giant" enterprises are important forces driving the digital transformation of manufacturing and developing new quality productive forces, and he hopes they will strengthen innovation leadership, cultivate an international perspective, and further create a vibrant situation of vigorous development and growth. Governments at all levels should increase policy support and create a favorable environment so that more small and medium-sized enterprises can stand out and grow into "hidden champions" and "unicorn" enterprises.

Li Qiang fully affirmed Jiangsu's achievements in economic and social development and expressed the hope that Jiangsu will comprehensively implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on Jiangsu's work, shoulder major responsibilities, take the lead and set an example in building a modern industrial system.
