Recently, the No. 4 pier of the Ma'anshan Yangtze River Rail-Road Bridge, constructed by China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group, began double-cantilever erection of steel girders and installation of stay cables. A red steel "giant dragon" is spreading its wings toward both banks of the Wanjiang River.

As a controlling project of the Chaohu-Ma'anshan Intercity Railway, the main-span steel girders of the Ma'anshan Yangtze River Rail-Road Bridge are erected using the cantilever method. The main-span-side steel girders of Piers No. 3 and No. 5 are erected with single cantilevers, while the main-span steel girders of Pier No. 4 are erected with double cantilevers. The 16-segment single-cantilever steel girder erection on the main-span side of Pier No. 3 was successfully completed in early June, with 180 stay cables installed. A total of 42 segments (including the closure segment) will be erected on the double cantilevers of Pier No. 4, with 41 pairs and 246 stay cables installed. The main-span steel girder closure is expected to be achieved by the end of May next year.

The double-cantilever steel girder erection of the main bridge is a key process in the construction of the entire bridge. To ensure safety and quality and achieve precise closure of the main-span steel girders, the builders adopted BIM digital twin technology to implement intelligent erection throughout the process: relevant data are transmitted wirelessly to the "Bridge Cloud" intelligent system for data analysis; remote command and adjustment are carried out via visual work enforcement recorders; and visual early warning of potential problems during construction enables timely and correct adjustment measures, minimizing risks and losses.
