Recently, Hubei Jiaotou Northwest Hubei Operation Management Co., Ltd. upgraded and renovated the lighting fixtures in 34 tunnels in both directions of the Shibai Expressway, making driving more comfortable and safer for drivers passing through the tunnels.

On the morning of May 28, at Phoenix No. 1 Tunnel on the Shibai Expressway, construction workers were divided into two groups to carry out lighting renovation of the streetlights there.

Peng Zhizhong of the Second Comprehensive Inspection Office of Hubei Jiaotou Northwest Hubei Operation Company introduced that they replaced the lighting fixtures and optimized and upgraded the wiring, replacing sodium lamps with more energy-efficient LED fixtures. According to estimates, power consumption will be reduced by nearly 40% after the renovation.

It is understood that the streetlights upgraded in this project involve 34 tunnels and nearly 10,000 lighting fixtures. The intelligent dimming system has been upgraded and can automatically adjust brightness according to the external environment and changes in light, and can also be controlled remotely.

Automatic remote control of lighting is achieved through the PLC control system of the monitoring system. During the day, all basic lighting fixtures are fully turned on, and some or all enhanced lighting fixtures are turned on as needed; at night, the enhanced lighting and basic lighting are turned off, and all emergency lighting fixtures are fully turned on. The entire renovation is scheduled to be completed before the end of June.

Through this renovation, the functionality and safety of the tunnel lighting system will be improved, minimizing the impact of the low-light environment inside the tunnel on drivers when they enter, making the transition more comfortable and driving safer when drivers enter and exit the tunnel.
