The steel truss girder of the closure segment of the main navigation channel bridge of the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge was hoisted into place. The bridge is expected to close in early June and is scheduled to open to traffic in the first half of next year. The bridge connects Changzhou and Taizhou on opposite banks of the Yangtze River and will become an important hub for cross-river integration, better serving the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta and the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
The steel truss girder of the closure segment of the main navigation channel bridge of the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge is 14 meters long, 35 meters wide and weighs about 800 tons. It will be lifted by a 1,800-ton deck crane from a working vessel on the river surface and will be joined with millimeter-level precision to the steel truss girders already erected.
The main bridge of the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge is 2,440 meters long and has a total of 91 steel truss girder hoisting segments, the heaviest weighing 1,865.5 tons. After the steel truss girder of the closure segment is hoisted into place, the builders will carry out a series of fine adjustments, with closure expected in early June.
The bridge has a double-deck layout, with a six-lane expressway on the upper deck and a two-way intercity railway and a four-lane ordinary highway on the lower deck. It is the first river crossing on the Yangtze to integrate an expressway, an intercity railway and an ordinary highway.
