On May 28, as the last meter of arch rock mass was broken through, the Pingbu Tunnel of the Guangxi Baise North Ring Expressway project undertaken by CCCC First Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. achieved double-line breakthrough, marking that all 5 tunnels on the project have been holed through, laying the foundation for the full line to open to traffic in 2025.
The Baise North Ring Expressway project is a key project for Guangxi to integrate into the new open development pattern of "southward connection, northward linkage, eastward integration and westward cooperation." The main line is about 52.589 kilometers long and is built to a standard of two-way four lanes at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. It starts near Zhitang Village, Naman Town, Tianyang District, Baise City, where the Naman hub is set up to connect with the Guangzhou-Kunming Expressway; the endpoint is located near Nalin, Youjiang District, Baise City, where the Baise North hub is set up to connect with the Longbai Expressway.
A total of 5 tunnels are built for the Baise North Ring Expressway project. Among them, the Nawu Tunnel is the longest tunnel on the entire line, with a length of 2,185 meters. The five tunnels are located among undulating and overlapping mountain foothills, where Class IV and V surrounding rocks are widely distributed, and they pass through multiple fault fracture zones, featuring weak, shallow-buried, biased-pressure and sudden water inrush conditions, making construction extremely difficult.
During construction, the CCCC First Harbor Engineering team used advanced technologies such as IoT and digitalization to build a multi-source information collection system and an intelligent business monitoring and early-warning system, realizing five-in-one management of tunnel construction featuring "perception, analysis, service, command and supervision"; it innovatively used new process equipment such as hydraulic automatic trolleys, enabling all tunnels to be holed through on schedule, safely and with high quality.
It is reported that the Baise North Ring Expressway project is a major infrastructure project in the Guangxi expressway network plan. After completion, it will further improve the ring road network of Baise's central urban area and improve the construction of expressways that connect to the border and the sea and open toward ASEAN.
