On May 10, Xu Dong, spokesperson for the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress, made a statement regarding the U.S. side signing the "foreign military aid package bill" into law. The full text is as follows:

Recently, the U.S. side signed the "foreign military aid package bill" into law. The negative China-related provisions of this bill clamor for the provision of military aid to Taiwan, seriously violate the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, and send a seriously wrong signal to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces; they also unreasonably suppress Chinese enterprises in the name of so-called "national security," once again exposing the bullying and hegemonic nature that the U.S. side has always displayed. The bill also ignores the extensive work China has done to help the U.S. side address the fentanyl crisis and clamors for sanctions against China; it threatens to impose unilateral sanctions and "long-arm jurisdiction" on normal economic and trade exchanges between China and Iran under the framework of international law, creating serious obstacles for China-U.S. cooperation in relevant fields. We firmly oppose this.

The Taiwan question is the core of the core of China's core interests and ** an insurmountable red line in China-U.S. relations. We will not sit idly by while "Taiwan independence" forces carry out separatist activities and external forces connive at and support them. Nor will we stand by while the U.S. side persists in suppressing China's high-tech development and depriving China of its legitimate right to development. We urge the U.S. side to respect China's core interests and major concerns and refrain from implementing the negative China-related provisions of the above-mentioned bill. If the U.S. side insists on going its own way, China will take resolute measures to firmly safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests.

Upholding mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation should be the direction of joint efforts of both China and the U.S. in the new era. The U.S. side should work with China in the same direction, establish a correct strategic perception, jointly and effectively manage differences, jointly advance mutually beneficial cooperation, jointly shoulder the responsibilities of major countries, and promote the sustained, steady and sound development of China-U.S. relations.
