Recently, the Xifeng Tunnel of the Pingliang-Qingyang Railway, a key project in Gansu's 14th Five-Year Plan railway development program constructed by China Railway 21st Bureau Group, has commenced construction, marking that the Xifeng section of the railway has officially entered the main construction stage.

The Xifeng Tunnel of the Pingliang-Qingyang Railway is located in the loess plateau area within Houguanzhai Town, Xifeng District, Qingyang City. It is a single-tube, double-track tunnel with a total length of 1,885 meters. The open-cut section of the tunnel is 1,705 meters long, and the mined (underground excavation) section is 180 meters long.

As the tunnel passes beneath oil and natural gas pipelines at multiple locations, it is characterized by high construction difficulty and high safety risks. Since entering the site, the construction personnel have seized the golden construction season, repeatedly discussed construction techniques and safety measures, organized several special meetings on tunnel construction, carefully prepared the tunnel construction organization and design scheme, and invited industry experts to review the construction scheme. In addition, advanced and intelligent equipment such as intelligent lining trolleys, hydraulic invert trestles, and intelligent curing trolleys have been deployed and integrated with information technology to achieve visualization at all construction points, thereby ensuring the quality and safety of tunnel construction.

In view of the fact that the Xifeng Tunnel has an overall burial depth of 2 to 13 meters, the construction personnel adopted the large-excavation, open-cut construction method: first constructing the interception ditches at the tops of the cuttings on both sides, and then starting foundation pit construction. This not only avoids the construction risks of the mined method in shallow-buried tunnels, but also achieves rapid excavation and rapid support.

After the project is completed, the Pingliang-Qingyang Railway will become a convenient passenger and freight transport corridor between the Longdong region and Lanzhou. It will play an important role in improving the regional road network layout, helping to comprehensively promote rural revitalization, and promoting high-quality regional economic and social development.
