The rainy and snowy low-temperature weather after the holiday did not affect the pace of construction of key projects in Shaanxi. From the Loess Plateau to the Qinba Mountains, from high-speed rail projects to water conservancy hubs, construction is in full swing. Led by key project construction, Shaanxi's economic development has continued to strengthen its resilience and staying power amid structural adjustment.

At the shield tunneling construction site of the Shaolingyuan Tunnel of the second phase of the Han-to-Wei Water Diversion Project, machines are roaring, the shield machine is advancing forward, and operators are closely watching instrument data to ensure construction progress. "In line with the tunnel construction milestones, our project department has more than 80 builders staying at the site during the Spring Festival to fully ensure the shield tunneling progress," introduced Zhao Mingliang, project manager of the construction bid section for the Shaolingyuan Tunnel on the southern trunk line of the second phase of the Han-to-Wei Water Diversion Project under China Railway 12th Bureau.

Thanks to the workers' dedication, the Han River water from the Qinba Mountains passes through the Qinling Mountains and flows into the Wei River, meeting the domestic and industrial water needs of cities on the Guanzhong Plain such as Xi'an, Xianyang and Weinan, laying a solid foundation for people's livelihood and consolidating the foundation for development.

At the construction site of the Hanchenggou Bridge on the Xi'an-Shiyan High-Speed Railway (Shaanxi section), workers are also fighting at full strength. During the Spring Festival, about 50 management personnel and more than 150 laborers stayed on duty at the project site. At present, construction of the lower structure of the Hanchenggou Bridge has been fully completed.

Projects are accelerating, and transformation and optimization are speeding up. The G8.5+ substrate glass production line project has been completed and put into operation in the High-tech Zone of Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province; the BYD expansion project started and went into production in the same year and completed 172.7% of the annual investment plan; the Samsung flash memory chip project and the second phase of the ESWIN silicon industry base have started construction... In recent years, with the continuous advancement of a large number of key projects, large-scale "green" production capacity such as new energy vehicles and solar cells has been released, industrial chains have been continuously extended, and industrial clusters have been accelerating their formation, providing strong support for Shaanxi to achieve high-quality development.

Walking into the automotive component welding workshop of Baoji Geely Automobile Co., Ltd., one sees that as the "iron arms" of industrial robots operate at high speed, car bodies are quickly formed one after another. "This 40,000-square-meter plant needs only 18 engineers for maintenance," said Zhou Xiulong, general manager of the company. The entire workshop has more than 400 robots of various types, and welding, handling and other processes are all automated, greatly improving production efficiency.

In recent years, with the landing and commissioning of key projects of enterprises such as BYD and Geely, the new energy vehicle industry has become an important lever for boosting Shaanxi's economic quality improvement and transformation. In 2023, Shaanxi's new energy vehicle output increased by 33.9% year on year, ranking among the top in the country, while solar cell output grew by 154.5%. The "green content" of the industry has been continuously improved, and a modern industrial system is taking shape.

Investment does not stop, and momentum is gathering. Data show that in 2023 Shaanxi's key project construction achieved both quantity and quality gains: industrial investment grew by 4.8%, with its share exceeding 30%; 174 key manufacturing industry chain projects completed investment of 130.98 billion yuan; investment by manufacturing enterprises grew by 10.1%; the output value of key manufacturing industry chains exceeded 1 trillion yuan, up 10.2%; and investment in scientific research and technical services grew by 46.2%.

A relevant official of the Shaanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission said that in recent years Shaanxi has always adhered to the new development philosophy, focusing on what the country needs, what Shaanxi can do, what the people expect and where the future is heading, scientifically demonstrating the "gold content," "green content" and "new content" of major projects, and achieving "picking good vegetables with a basket in hand," providing a demonstration for the economic development of the western region.
