The "2024 Beijing Urban Rail Transit Construction Plan" was officially released on February 22.

The reporter learned from the rail transit construction work mobilization and deployment meeting held by the Beijing Municipal Major Project Construction Command that this year Beijing's rail transit will achieve initial operation of three lines (sections) totaling approximately 45.3 kilometers, including Phase I of Line 3 (Dongsi Shitiao-Dongfeng), Line 12 (Sijiqing-Dongfeng), and the remaining section of Phase I of the southern extension of the Changping Line (Xitucheng-Jimenqiao); achieve full commencement of construction of two lines under the Phase III construction plan, namely the Line 1 branch line and Phase I of the M101 line; and advance the construction of 10 lines (sections) totaling 201.7 kilometers under construction. By then, Beijing's urban rail transit operating mileage will exceed 880 kilometers.

Three lines (sections) to open

Phase I of Line 3 (Dongsi Shitiao-Dongfeng) is a rail transit trunk line running east-west through Beijing, with a length of approximately 15.7 kilometers and 10 stations, including 6 transfer stations. After completion and opening, it will connect multiple north-south and east-west rail transit trunk lines, greatly enhancing the accessibility of the city's rail transit network and the convenience of passenger travel, effectively solving the passenger connection challenge at Beijing Chaoyang Railway Station, and playing a positive role in improving transportation in eastern Beijing and promoting regional economic and social development.

Line 12 (Sijiqing-Dongfeng) is a rail transit trunk line mainly laid east-west along the North Third Ring Road, with a length of approximately 28.9 kilometers, spanning four administrative districts and with 20 stations, including 13 transfer stations. After completion and opening, it will enable transfers with 12 lines including Line 4 and Line 5, further optimizing the urban transportation structure, alleviating the contradiction in rail transit capacity, improving the Beijing rail transit network, and easing traffic pressure in the urban area.

The remaining section of Phase I of the southern extension of the Changping Line (Xitucheng-Jimenqiao) consists of one station and one interval, with a length of approximately 0.7 kilometers. After completion and opening, the entire Phase I of the southern extension of the Changping Line will be fully connected, further facilitating travel for residents along the line.

Two Phase III planned lines to fully commence construction

The "Phase III Construction Plan for Beijing Urban Rail Transit" has been approved, and this year the planning and construction of Phase III construction plan lines will be fully launched.

According to the plan, 2024 will see the full commencement of construction of the Line 1 branch line and Phase I of the M101 line. Among them, the Line 1 branch line (Qinglonghu East-Bajiao Amusement Park) has a length of approximately 21 kilometers and 10 stations, and is an important infill and densification line in the Phase III construction plan of rail transit and a guiding line supporting the development of the Hexi area; Phase I of the M101 line (Business Park-Zhangjiawan East) has a length of approximately 18.1 kilometers and 14 stations, and is a backbone line within the city sub-center. After completion, the two lines will be of great significance in promoting the implementation of Beijing's master urban plan, facilitating the relocation of non-capital functions, and driving regional development. At present, the Line 1 branch line has achieved its commencement target.

In 2024, Beijing will accelerate the deepening of research on the scheme and planning and design of Phase II of Line 19 and the northern section of Phase I of the R4 line, and the preliminary work of the remaining Phase III construction plan projects will also be launched successively.

10 lines under construction

In 2024, Beijing will comprehensively advance the construction of 10 lines (sections) totaling 201.7 kilometers under construction, including Phase I of Line 3 (Dongsi Shitiao-Dongfeng), Line 12 (Sijiqing-Dongfeng), the remaining section of Phase I of the southern extension of the Changping Line, the remaining section of Line 17, the Pinggu Line, Line 28, the northern extension of the Daxing Airport Line, the Line 13 capacity expansion and improvement project, and the southern extension of Line 6.

These lines will further optimize the urban transportation structure, improve the Beijing rail transit network, ease traffic pressure in the central city, and at the same time strengthen the connection and coverage of rail transit to the city sub-center and the Beijing-Hebei region, build an urban public transport system with rail transit as the backbone, improve the overall network operating efficiency, and improve residents' travel conditions.

In addition, this year Beijing will also accelerate the opening and commissioning of five entrances and exits, including Zhufang North Station on Phase I of the southern extension of the Changping Line, Entrances B and C of Yizhuang Railway Station on the Yizhuang Line, Entrance D of Xingong Station on the Daxing Line, Entrance A2 of Futong Station on Line 14, and Entrance D2 of Xueyuanqiao Station on Phase I of the southern extension of the Changping Line.
