Major economic provinces make clear they should "shoulder the heavy responsibility"
The Central Economic Work Conference held in December 2023 proposed that "major economic provinces should truly shoulder the heavy responsibility and make greater contributions to stabilizing the national economy." People's Daily Online Finance found that "shouldering the heavy responsibility" has become a keyword at the "New Spring First Meetings" of many major economic provinces.
After Zhejiang Province's GDP surpassed 8 trillion for the first time in 2023, it raised its 2024 growth target to around 5.5%. The meeting explicitly stated that "major economic provinces should bravely shoulder the heavy responsibility," proposed that "one must run from the opening and leap from the start," and emphasized grasping the "No. 1 Development Project" of digital economy innovation and quality improvement, the "No. 1 Opening-up Project" of upgrading the sweet potato economy, and the "No. 1 Reform Project" of optimizing and improving the business environment.
As the country's first "13-trillion major province," Guangdong set its New Year GDP growth target at 5%.
