At around 10 a.m. on February 19, as the drill bit of a large drilling rig was slowly lowered, the first pile construction began for the main pier of the Bengbu Yan'an Road Huaihe River Bridge.
At around 9 a.m. that day, amid light fog and spring rain, a reporter from Dawan News observed at the Yan'an Road Huaihe River Bridge project site on the north bank of the Huaihe River in Huaishang District, Bengbu City, that workers and engineering machinery vehicles were operating in an orderly manner on the steel-structured drilling platform. Various sounds intermingled, sounding the clarion call for rapid and vigorous construction production.
According to on-site construction manager Xia Xiao, at present the construction sites on both banks of the bridge are making preparations for the pile foundation construction of the main pier. The south bank is stepping up the construction of the drilling platform; the north bank drilling platform has already been completed, and casing installation work is underway, with pile foundation construction about to begin.

The main span of the Yan'an Road Bridge reaches 420 meters, making it the cable-stayed bridge with the largest span under construction on the Huaihe River, featuring two towers and two cable planes; therefore, the design standards for the main pier are very high. The pile foundation drilling construction that began today is also the first pile construction of the Yan'an Road Huaihe River Bridge over the Huaihe River. After the drilling construction, the contractor will also drive 24 concrete piles, each 48 meters long, to solidify the foundation of the main pier. Starting today, ** piles will be driven for the main pier on the north bank. After formally entering the main construction phase, the pile foundation construction on both the north and south banks is expected to be completed before the main flood season in June.
On October 18, 2023, the commencement mobilization meeting for the Bengbu Yan'an Road (Huaihe River) Bridge was held. This is the 9th modern bridge spanning the Huaihe River within Bengbu's urban area. The Yan'an Road (Huaihe River) Bridge project route has a total length of 2,733 meters, of which the Huaihe River super-large bridge is 2,270 meters long, and the river-crossing section's two-tower, two-cable-plane cable-stayed bridge is 840 meters long, with a main span of 420 meters, making it the bridge with the largest main span in the Huaihe River basin. Once completed, the Yan'an Road Bridge will greatly ease traffic pressure in Bengbu's urban area, fully leverage the radiating and driving role of the south bank central urban district, open up north-south internal connections within the north bank area, and further drive the economic and social development of the north bank region.
