The key technology for the construction of kilometer-level river-crossing suspension bridges in piping-prone areas of the middle Yangtze River, proposed by Shanghai Yuanfang, has been successfully applied to the anchorage project of the Qipanzhou Yangtze River Highway Bridge, solving the difficulties of deep foundation pit excavation and large design water head difference in the anchorage project of the Qipanzhou Bridge. After review, this technology was awarded the First Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award by the China Highway & Transportation Society.

The prominent difficulties in the construction of the anchorage project of the Qipanzhou Yangtze River Highway Bridge lie in the impact of high water levels in the Yangtze River and the excavation and pouring of an ultra-deep foundation pit. Shanghai Yuanfang adopted a circular diaphragm wall plus an annular reinforced concrete inner lining as the support structure for foundation excavation, applied mass concrete pouring technology, and took key measures such as raising the water level within the trench sections during the flood season and reducing the water pressure difference, thereby smoothly completing the construction of the project and achieving an over-standard control with an actual vertical error of only 5 centimeters in the wall.

The Qipanzhou Yangtze River Highway Bridge was officially opened to traffic in September 2021. As one of the important river-crossing channels of the main stream of the Yangtze River, the bridge directly connects the middle Yangtze River urban agglomerations of Hubei, Hunan, and Anhui, greatly facilitating transportation among cities along the route, effectively promoting the flow of resources, industrial collaboration, and infrastructure connectivity among various regions, and making outstanding contributions to the regional linkage, collaboration, and high-quality development of the middle Yangtze River urban agglomerations.
