Unlike some companies that focus on big cities, in recent years, the Fourth Company of China Xinxing Construction & Development General Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Xinxing Construction) has planted the bright banner of Xinxing Construction in many small cities across China, leaving behind stories of small towns that belong to the Fourth Company.
So Close Yet Hard to Go Home
Qian'an, Hebei, 237 kilometers from Beijing.
This is known as the wealthiest county town in Hebei Province. The Antingyuan residential project undertaken by the Fourth Company is located in the golden section of this important steel industry town, adjacent to the municipal government. The client's boss said: "Xinxing's work is beautifully done, giving me confidence. I need a name full of confidence." Finally, after multiple rounds of selection, "Mansion No. 1" stood out! Pointing at the high-rise buildings, the boss patted his chest and said: "This building is Qian'an's NO.1!" Today, the project is positioned as a finely decorated cultural landscape mansion that reflects the city's beautiful image and meets the needs of high-end living quality.
But behind the achievements is the hard work and dedication of the project department staff. Some employees' homes are locally, very close to the construction site. However, to meet the construction schedule, it is common for these employees not to go home for ten to twenty days. During the construction period, some employees' children were advancing to higher schools, some employees' parents were hospitalized, and some employees' relatives needed care... Between family affection and career, between family and work, everyone tried hard to strike a balance. In view of this situation, in 2011, the company's general manager Cheng Lianguang proposed the establishment of a service team for non-local employees, leveraging the logistical support of the headquarters to promptly solve difficulties and urgent matters for non-local employees, relieving their worries.
Love Blossoms Among Steel and Concrete
Qingyun, Shandong, 305 kilometers from Beijing.
This is a county town that can be toured in just a few dozen minutes, yet it is a place etched in the memory of the company's 2010 newcomers. To train the newcomers, the company assigned all the new employees who had just joined that year to the Qingyun No. 1 Middle School project department. The site is remote; the nearest small supermarket requires a half-hour bicycle ride. Initially, life on the site was tough—no cafeteria, no restroom; living and office space were in one room.
But in such a harsh environment, a beautiful flower of love blossomed. Two young people from Beijing met, got to know each other, fell in love, and eventually entered the marriage hall. The girl said that they graduated in the same year, joined the Fourth Company at the same time, and took the same long-distance bus to the Qingyun construction site. One was a plumbing and electrical foreman, the other a civil engineering foreman; fate brought them together.
In the past two years, some young men from the Beijing project department have volunteered to work in other regions because their beloved ones are in that project department; some young women from non-local project departments have given up the opportunity to return to Beijing because someone they care about is on the site. Among the steel and concrete of the Fourth Company's project departments, the flower of love is in full bloom.
Convincing Others with Professionalism
Lüliang, Shanxi, 668 kilometers from Beijing.
When mentioning this place, many people first think of "The Legend of Lüliang Heroes," but for the Evergrande Huafu project department, what they experience more is the overwhelming yellow—the earth is yellow, the mountains are yellow, even the wind is yellow.
Shortly after the start of construction, the project department encountered trouble when paying corporate income tax. The local tax bureau required the company to pay 2% corporate income tax when the project department applied for tax agency invoices for engineering payments. Upon learning of the situation, the company's deputy general manager for accounting, Peng Ran, immediately realized that the other party had improperly cited tax regulations and made calculation errors. After the project department's initial negotiations failed, she went to the local government and tax bureau three times to negotiate. Relying on her proficient knowledge of the State Administration of Taxation's policies on the collection and management of corporate income tax for cross-regional operations, and with admirable professionalism, she ultimately reduced the corporate income tax from 2% to the appropriate 0.2%. According to the project department's provisional contract estimate, this secured benefits of over 3 million yuan for the company.
The project department has many young people, who have spontaneously formed a band and a basketball team. To support everyone's interests, the project department invested more than 20,000 yuan to equip everyone with a full set of musical instruments. After work, they write songs and rehearse, enjoying themselves immensely. Next to the construction site is Lüliang Normal College; through music and basketball, the young people quickly became familiar with each other. Several handsome young men even gained fans. Where there are young people, there is laughter and joy.
Witnessing the Famous "Trademark Dispute"
Qingyuan, Guangdong, 2155 kilometers from Beijing.
In this place known as the backyard of Guangzhou, the Fourth Company undertook the group project of the JDB Herbal Tea filling plant, from herbal processing to concentrate production, from herbal tea filling to packaging and transportation, from office buildings to employee dormitories. The project department also witnessed the growth of JDB in the domestic market. As the trademark dispute between Wong Lo Kat and JDB intensified, the project department followed the situation with concern and discussed the content of intellectual property laws and policies. Everyone said, "We are also witnessing history; who would have thought that China's most famous trademark dispute would take place on our construction site."
Some management personnel of the project department had previously worked on the CSSC shipbuilding base on Longxue Island in the Lingdingyang estuary south of Guangdong. Before the bridge connecting the island to the mainland was completed, everyone could only travel by boat. The bumpy waves made people dizzy, and when docking, people's legs often went weak and they couldn't stand. Initially, the project department's drinking water and food had to be purchased from Xinken Town, 10 nautical miles away; the hardship of the journey made everyone consciously reduce their food intake. Due to the long-term lack of fresh fruits and vegetables, almost everyone experienced symptoms such as bleeding gums and mouth ulcers. Typhoons and islands—scenes that often appear only in Hollywood blockbusters—also occurred in reality. With the ebb and flow of the tide, having a comfortable and solid dream was everyone's expectation. Those dreams were about eating a meal no longer mixed with sand, taking a cold shower no longer murky, walking on a path no longer muddy, typhoons no longer destroying the construction site, and pirates no longer robbing under the cover of darkness. Today, the place where the project department once worked has become the largest shipbuilding base in South China, with factories everywhere and machines roaring.
The stories of small towns continue. Non-local employees are like dandelions, rooted in Beijing, scattered by the wind, settling wherever there is a project, enduring and growing. Wild lilies also have their spring; small counties also have big stages. Every employee is a seed of hope; when the spring breeze blows, a profusion of flowers blooms.
