At around 6 a.m. on January 22, a landslide occurred in Liangshui Village, Tangfang Town, Zhenxiong County, Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province, burying 18 households' homes and leaving 47 people missing.

After the disaster occurred, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the State, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attached great importance to it and issued important instructions, requiring prompt organization of rescue forces, all-out search and rescue of the missing, and the greatest possible effort to reduce casualties. Monitoring and early warning must be strengthened, search and rescue must be conducted scientifically, and secondary disasters must be prevented. Proper work must be done to comfort the families of the victims and resettle the affected people. Xi Jinping stressed that with the Spring Festival approaching and compounded by the impact of cold wave weather, natural disasters, traffic accidents, workplace safety accidents and other incidents are prone to occur frequently. All regions and relevant departments must keep a close eye on risks and hidden dangers, firmly fulfill their responsibilities at all levels, vigorously ensure implementation of work, prevent and curb incidents causing major casualties, and effectively safeguard the safety of people's lives and property.

Li Qiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, issued instructions, requiring all-out organization of emergency rescue, racing against time to search and rescue the missing, making the greatest possible effort to reduce casualties, while carefully investigating hidden geological disaster risks in surrounding areas, strengthening monitoring and early warning of dangerous situations, and strictly preventing secondary disasters. The incident site is in a high-altitude cold mountain area and an ethnic region; people under threat must be relocated as soon as possible, resettlement work must be properly carried out, the safety of people's lives and property must be effectively safeguarded, and overall social stability must be maintained.

In accordance with Xi Jinping's instructions and Li Qiang's requirements, Zhang Guoqing, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, has led a working group to the scene in Yunnan to guide search and rescue work. The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Emergency Management have activated emergency responses, and Yunnan Province and Zhaotong City have organized forces to carry out rescue. At present, all work is proceeding in an intense and orderly manner.
