Recently, the main structure of the mainline tunnel of the Changsha Xiangya Road river-crossing passage achieved full breakthrough, and it is expected to open to traffic this year. At present, the mainline tunnel is undergoing electromechanical and decoration works as well as asphalt surface layer construction, and ground road restoration has been fully launched.

The Xiangya Road river-crossing tunnel is about 4.18 kilometers long in total, connecting Tongzipo Road in the west and Xiangya Road in the east. It is one of the three major river-crossing tunnels within Changsha's Second Ring Road and is also Changsha's first dual-direction 6-lane river-crossing tunnel.

In the Hexi section, the tunnel entrance and exit located on Tongzipo Road have basically taken shape, and construction of the adjacent MixC is in full swing, with plans to open this year.

In the Hedong section, the tunnel entrances and exits at the intersections of Xiangya Road with Huangxing Road and of Xiangya Road with Furong Middle Road have also basically taken shape.

At the tunnel entrances and exits, the "Xiangya Road Tunnel" logo is clearly visible, and asphalt has already been paved on some road surfaces.

The Xiangya Road river-crossing passage connects Xiangya Road in Hedong with Tongzipo Road in Hexi. It starts from Yuehua Road in Yuelu District in the west and connects to Furong Middle Road in Kaifu District in the east. It is located between Yinpenling Bridge and Yingpan Road Tunnel, about 650 meters north of Yinpenling Bridge and about 1,000 meters south of Yingpan Road Tunnel.

The project's tunnel works include the south and north mainlines and 4 ramps. The river-crossing section has dual-direction six lanes, and after the ramps split off it has dual-direction four lanes, while the ramps are one-way single-lane.

The river-crossing passage has a total of 4 ramps, with one pair of entry and exit ramps each in Hexi and Hedong. The ground roads mainly consist of quality improvement and reconstruction of Tongzipo Road and Xiangya Road within the design scope, with a standard cross-section width of 46 meters and dual-direction six lanes. The Hexi underground parking lot is located above the tunnel between Xiaoxiang North Road and Xiangyue Road and will provide 403 parking spaces upon completion.

At present, traffic in Changsha's central urban area is approaching saturation. In particular, vehicle congestion frequently occurs on Yinpenling Bridge along the line from Yuelu Avenue to Sanyi Avenue, putting considerable pressure on traffic.

The Xiangya Road river-crossing tunnel is located between Sanyi Avenue and Yingpan Road and can connect the Hexi New Town with the city's main center. After the project is completed, it will take only 5 minutes from Hexi New Town to the Furong Middle Road CBD, effectively alleviating the river-crossing pressure on Yinpenling Bridge and Yingpan Road Tunnel.
