On January 17, construction began on the Yangtze River Tongling Reach Comprehensive Regulation Project at the Xinxing Sluice outer beach area in Tonggu District, Tongling City, Anhui Province.

The Yangtze River Tongling Reach Comprehensive Regulation Project is one of the 150 major national water conservancy projects and a key project promoted by the Ministry of Water Resources and the Anhui Provincial Government. The project's regulation scope extends from Yangshanji in the upper reaches to Digang Town in the lower reaches, with a total length of 59.9 kilometers. On the basis of existing bank protection works, it will carry out protective regulation of hazardous and vulnerable sections of the Tongling Reach, including 16 bank protection sections with a total length of 39.05 kilometers, among which 29.53 kilometers of new above-water slope protection works and 37.43 kilometers of new underwater toe protection works will be built. The total investment approved in the project feasibility study is 1.01 billion yuan, and the total construction period is 21 months.

The Yangtze River Tongling Reach is a typical goose-head-shaped multi-branched channel with numerous shoals and branches and a complex channel morphology, and is one of the key regulation reaches of the main stream of the middle and lower Yangtze River. The areas along both banks are relatively economically developed and hold important strategic positions. After years of regulation, the overall river regime of the Tongling Reach has been initially brought under control, but unstable factors in the river regime still exist, bank protection works remain incomplete, bank collapse emergencies occur from time to time, and flood control pressure has consistently been high. Implementing the Yangtze River Tongling Reach Comprehensive Regulation Project is of great significance for ensuring the stability of the river regime in the Tongling Reach, enhancing flood control capacity along the banks, protecting navigation conditions, and promoting high-quality regional economic and social development.
