On the afternoon of January 15, with the removal of the top cover of the receiving steel sleeve, the right-line shield machine for the Jiangdongmen Station–Qingjiangnan Road Station section (hereinafter referred to as the "Jiang-Qing section") of Nanjing Metro Line 9 was successfully received. The Jiangdongmen Station–Qingjiangnan Road Station section starts from the shield shaft at the east end of Qingjiangnan Road Station, runs eastward along Shuiximen Street, then turns onto Jiangdong Middle Road and extends southward to Jiangdongmen Station. The designed length of the right line of the section is 1012.88 m. The section tunnel mainly passes through silty mucky clay, silty sand, and silty clay interbedded with silty sand, imposing high requirements for the control and protection of surface settlement and buildings.

In response to the characteristics of the Yangtze River floodplain strata—being water-rich and having high quartz content in the sand layers—Nanjing Metro, together with all participating construction units, proposed key process control measures summarized as "one guarantee, two preventions, three watchings." The "one guarantee" is to guarantee the shield launching attitude; the "two preventions" are to prevent the cutterhead from freezing and to prevent water leakage at the portal; the "three watchings" are watching and controlling during the portal breaking stage, during the freezing pipe removal stage, and during the establishment of earth pressure in the soil chamber after the cutterhead exits the reinforcement zone, effectively ensuring the safety of shield launching. Through 24-hour uninterrupted remote monitoring, synchronized real-time monitoring of ground settlement, and the use of mature informatized monitoring methods, the shield tunneling parameters were continuously optimized, safeguarding safe and smooth tunneling and breakthrough of the shield.

For the under-construction first phase of Line 9, as of January 2024, all 14 new stations have commenced construction, 13 stations have completed their retaining structures, and 11 stations have completed their main structures. Nineteen shield tunnels have been launched, of which 17 have been holed through.
