At the end of 2023, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held a special democratic life meeting on studying and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that "unity and struggle are the only way for the Party to lead the people in creating great historical achievements," and required that we "always put the people in the highest position in our hearts, stand firmly on the side of the people, and cultivate deep feelings for the people," and emphasized "taking the lead in fulfilling the political responsibility of governing the Party and managing its members, and doing a good job in improving Party conduct and building integrity in the areas under one's charge and in the localities one governs." The Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core leads by example in continuing to advance the Party's self-revolution, uses the great self-revolution to guide the great social revolution, and constantly gathers confidence and strength for comprehensively advancing the building of a strong country and the great cause of national rejuvenation through Chinese-style modernization.

Having the courage to carry out self-revolution is a distinctive hallmark that sets our Party apart from other political parties, and it is the secret to success that has enabled the Party to escape the historical cycle of rise and fall and to emerge from a century of vicissitudes with even greater vitality. At the third plenary session of the 20th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, General Secretary Xi Jinping clearly put forward the practical requirements of the "nine withs," one of which is "taking the guidance of the great social revolution as the fundamental purpose." This important requirement reveals that our Party will, with the determination and perseverance of always being on the road, carry the great self-revolution of full and rigorous Party self-governance through to the end; it demonstrates our Party's political character of "always maintaining the true nature of a Marxist ruling party, always walking at the forefront of the times, and always serving as the backbone of the Chinese people and the Chinese nation." On the new journey, we must continue to carry forward the thoroughgoing revolutionary spirit, have the courage to carry out self-revolution, build the Party into something even stronger and more powerful, and strive to carry out well the great social revolution of upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.

Self-revolution and social revolution are organically unified and mutually reinforcing. The Party's self-revolution is a necessary prerequisite and important guarantee for the social revolution led by the Party, and the social revolution led by the Party is the value pursuit and goal orientation of the Party's self-revolution. Looking back on a century of Party history, the key reason our Party has been able to endure hardships and yet remain endlessly vital and in the prime of life is that it has always persisted in the principle that the Party must supervise itself and in full and rigorous Party self-governance without slackening, and while promoting the social revolution it has carried out a thoroughgoing self-revolution, using the Party's self-revolution to advance the great social revolution led by the Party and carried out by the people. Full and rigorous Party self-governance is the great practice of the Party's self-revolution in the new era and also a distinctive feature of the Party's governance in the new era. Through revolutionary tempering, the Party has become stronger and more powerful and has radiated new and mighty vitality, providing a strong political guarantee for the development of the cause of the Party and the country. The great social revolution tempers and brings about a great Party, and the great self-revolution safeguards and promotes the great cause. This is the valuable experience through which the Party has continuously moved from victory to new victory over the past century, and it is also an important guide for the Party in grasping the laws of historical development and striving on the new journey.

To be a good answerer of the "cave question" and to achieve good results on the "new road of examination" is what the times require and what the people call for. Upholding the principle of leading the great social revolution with the great self-revolution in the new era has important strategic and overall significance. The great social revolution that our Party leads the people in carrying out is unprecedented in the breadth of the fields it covers, the depth with which it touches the adjustment of interest patterns, the sharpness of the contradictions and problems it involves, the difficulty of breaking through institutional and mechanistic obstacles, and the complexity of the situation in carrying out the great struggle. To forge the hardest iron, one must be truly iron-forged. Having the courage to carry out self-revolution is the most distinctive character of our Party and also its greatest strength. The greatness of the Communist Party of China lies not in never making mistakes, but in never concealing its ailments and avoiding medical treatment, in daring to face problems squarely, in having the courage to carry out self-revolution, and in possessing an extremely strong capacity for self-repair. As the largest Marxist ruling party in the world, if our Party is to always win the support of the people and consolidate its long-term ruling position, it must always maintain sobriety and firmness in solving the unique problems of a large party.

At whatever stage the cause of the Party and the people develops, full and rigorous Party self-governance must follow. General Secretary Xi Jinping profoundly pointed out that "compared with the great social revolution of marching toward a great modern socialist country, there are still some places in the Party's own construction that do not match or do not adapt." In particular, some problems in Party conduct and integrity are recurrent and stubborn, and if one is slightly inattentive they will rebound and all previous efforts will be wasted; the contest between anti-corruption efforts and corruption is still being waged fiercely and has shown some new stage-specific characteristics. As long as the soil and conditions that breed corruption exist, corruption will not be eradicated. Taking the guidance of the great social revolution as the fundamental purpose helps to motivate the whole Party to strengthen its consciousness of facing problems squarely and its courage to turn the blade inward, to bravely face the "four tests," to resolutely overcome the "four dangers," and to continuously improve the Party's "hardness," "purity," "rigidity," and "toughness," so as to unswervingly build the Party into something stronger and more powerful.

The times move forward, and the examination paper is always new. "Our Party has gone through a century and achieved brilliant successes, and there is much praise from inside and outside the Party and from home and abroad. The more this is so, the more we must carry forward the spirit of self-revolution and must never lose ourselves amid a chorus of cheers." On November 11, 2021, on the occasion of the adoption of the Party's third historical resolution, General Secretary Xi Jinping admonished the whole Party in this way. Bear in mind the Party's original aspiration and mission, unswervingly advance full and rigorous Party self-governance, ensure that the Party is governed in a proper way, with strong governance and effective Party building, and forge the Party into a piece of hard steel that is invincible and ever-victorious, so that no difficulty can block the pace of the Chinese nation's advance.
