On January 12, the left line of the "Apollo Station–Apollo South Station" section in Work Area 5 of the Phase II project of Shenzhen Urban Rail Transit Line 16, constructed by the Tunnel Branch of the Municipal Engineering Group, was successfully holed through, marking that this work area has fully completed the shield tunneling task of "one station and two sections" for the entire line, 79 days ahead of the scheduled milestone target.

The shield on the left line of the "Yuanshan Station–Apollo South Station" section was successfully launched on December 23, 2022 at the large-mileage end of Yuanshan Station, and completed shield tunneling on July 21, 2023, achieving holing-through 50 days ahead of the original plan, becoming the **section tunnel on the entire Phase II line of Line 16 where the shield was launched and holing-through was achieved! To save time, ensure progress, improve quality, and promote safety, the project construction team actively responded to the green development concept, integrating environmental protection and sustainable development throughout the entire construction process, gathering elite forces to carry out work scientifically, and going all out to achieve the holing-through target of "Apollo Station–Apollo South Station" in 3 months, completing the shield tunneling task of one station and two sections undertaken by Work Area 5 of the Phase II project of Line 16, and laying a solid foundation for the on-schedule holing-through of the entire Phase II project of Line 16.

While strengthening construction organization and coordination, optimizing construction process management, and advancing all work from "safe and high-speed" to "high-quality and efficient," the project construction management team directly encountered many difficulties, such as numerous risk sources for underpassing, complex geological conditions, cumbersome procedures and long approval cycles for shield underpassing, and cross-construction with shields in adjacent work areas. The issue of shield underpassing risk sources alone cannot be underestimated, with unprecedented technical difficulty and safety risk. Adhering to the guiding principle of "safe construction, technology first," when underpassing areas such as high-voltage towers, pipelines, river channels, and buildings, the project frontline used advanced means to intensify monitoring and measurement, and adopted efficient methods such as settlement auxiliary agents and thick slurry methods to reduce settlement warning values, ensuring construction safety and ensuring smooth underpassing of risk areas. To ensure the smooth passage of the shield machine through the utility tunnel, the project construction management team conducted in-depth exploration of the utility tunnel structure and accurately grasped the intrusion range of the utility tunnel pile foundations on the tunnel along the tunneling path. This precise information provided the shield machine with the most scientific and reasonable tunneling plan. At the same time, the shield machine was equipped with an advanced real-time monitoring system to monitor various parameters of the shield machine in real time during tunneling, ensuring that construction personnel could respond quickly when parameters were abnormal during the underpassing stage, adjust construction parameters in a timely manner or take emergency measures, and minimize risks.

In addition, project department members worked in 24-hour rotating shifts to conduct real-time monitoring and inspection of the utility tunnel, provide timely data feedback, and flexibly adjust the tunneling parameters of the shield machine. This not only ensured the efficiency and quality of the project, but also enabled the shield machine to tunnel safely and efficiently in the complex and changeable geological environment.
