On the morning of January 4, at the construction site of Ramp D of the Sanya River Estuary Channel Project located on Jiangang Road, more than 40 workers were seen braving the warm winter sun, racing to complete side-wall rebar tying and concrete pouring, striving to finish the main structure construction before the Spring Festival. At present, the bottom slab of the 125-meter-long open-cut tunnel section has been fully poured.

According to reports, the project currently has more than 150 workers distributed across four work fronts—Ramp D of the initial section, the Luhuitou launching shaft, the receiving shaft, and the enclosure structure of Line A—working together to accelerate construction progress and striving to achieve opening to traffic by June 2026. The main structures of three ramps have been advanced successively this year, and it is expected that by around August at the earliest, jacking operations can be carried out in the pipe-roof section crossing the river estuary.

Since construction began in September 2023, the starting section of Ramp D has completed about 80% of the works. It is expected that the buried section will be completed after the Spring Festival, after which construction will continue forward with the slope gradually descending from "plus or minus zero" to 30 meters underground, up to the traffic diversion construction at the Sanya Port wharf. During the Spring Festival, the project will ensure that key construction sections do not stop work, so that the schedule can proceed as planned.

It is understood that the Sanya River Estuary Channel Project, as a key project of Hainan Province, is one of the important corridors in Sanya's transportation planning and also Sanya's ** underwater tunnel project. The project has a total investment of 2.67 billion yuan and a designed total tunnel length of 3.118 kilometers, including one main line, three ramps, and eight entrances and exits. Once completed, it is expected to reduce citizens' detour distance by 5 kilometers, alleviate traffic pressure on main roads, and further improve the road network function.

It is worth mentioning that the estuary section of the project involves all-undersea operations and adopts an EPC model led by design, giving full play to the integrated advantages of the design institute and the construction unit to help advance the project as a whole with high quality. Under the guidance of the EPC model, all departments can coordinate and cooperate, solve problems quickly, and fully open up work fronts. According to the overall schedule of the project, about 55% of the construction progress is expected to be completed this year, with a target output value of 800 million yuan.
