On November 19, the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau of Nanfeng County, Jiangxi Province, issued a notice "Regarding the Collapse of a Dilapidated Building in Nanfeng County":
A dilapidated residential building in Qincheng Town, Nanfeng County, collapsed at around 11:00 on November 19, 2023. The building is located at No. 100 Xinjian Road, Qincheng Town, and has seven floors. It was originally built in 1993 and is of brick-concrete structure.
In May 2022, relevant departments of our county identified potential safety hazards in the building during an inspection. A third-party appraisal concluded that the building was Grade C. All residents of the building were immediately evacuated and resettled, and safety protection measures such as cutting off water and electricity, installing fencing, and setting up warning lines were implemented.

According to nearby merchants, the building involved was a dilapidated building undergoing reinforcement, and the accident occurred right across from their own shop; it was a multi-story building that collapsed during maintenance. A merchant said: "It was a six-story building. There had originally been a slight collapse, and they were doing repairs. As they repaired and repaired, it collapsed."
After the accident, the local emergency department quickly arrived at the scene to handle the situation, and the matter is still under further investigation.

Given that no one currently lives in the building, on-site inspections found no reports of casualties. Relevant handling work is currently proceeding in an orderly manner.
A shop worker across from the collapsed building told Jimu News that the incident occurred at around 11 a.m. on the 19th, when the building suddenly collapsed, sending up a large cloud of dust. "It was very loud; it suddenly collapsed all at once." The merchant also said that when the building collapsed, flying debris smashed the glass door of the shop.
Staff of the Qincheng Town government said that after the building collapsed, fire and rescue teams had already arrived at the scene.
Staff of the Nanfeng County Emergency Management Bureau told Jimu News that at around 11 a.m. on the 19th, they received a report that a seven-story self-built house on Xinjian Road had collapsed, and that so far no feedback on casualties had been received. They also said that the building had already been appraised as dilapidated in July last year, its water and electricity had been cut off, and people had been evacuated. "When it collapsed, there was quite a lot of dust."
Dear friends, the boundaries of reinforcement and renovation projects are extremely complex, and various boundary conditions need to be comprehensively considered. Reinforcement and renovation are far more complex than new design and require very strong comprehensive capabilities. A reminder to all friends: be cautious, cautious, and even more cautious!
