On the afternoon of November 15, after half a year of day-and-night efforts by the builders, the Yihe'ang No. 2 Tunnel, constructed by the XCTJ5 Bid Project Department of China Railway First Group for the Xining-Chengdu Railway, was safely and smoothly holed through. This tunnel is the first mainline tunnel to be holed through within the Gannan area of the Xining-Chengdu Railway, marking a new step forward in the construction and production of the Xining-Chengdu Railway within Gannan.

The Yihe'ang No. 2 Tunnel is located within Hezuo City, with its tunnel body situated in the transition zone between mountainous areas and basins. The tunnel has a total length of 222 m, with the entire tunnel in a shallow-buried section; moreover, the tunnel geology is complex, construction is difficult, and quality control requirements are high. All participating personnel of China Railway First Group rose to the challenges, innovated processes and construction methods, and carried out technical research to ensure smooth tunnel construction.

The tunnel body passes through collapsible loess and shallow-buried unsymmetrical loading. The holing-through of the tunnel provides experience and reference for other tunnels within the bid section. Next, we will accelerate the construction progress, complete the remaining works safely and with high quality, and contribute to the smooth opening of the Xining-Chengdu Railway.

The Xining-Chengdu Railway is a major project in the national "14th Five-Year Plan" comprehensive transportation system development plan and an important railway corridor connecting Northwest China with Southwest China and linking to South China. Upon completion, the project will completely change the history of no railways within the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and will have a positive impact on material exchange, industrial upgrading, and tourism resource development in the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.
