Recently, accompanied by the roar of machinery, the cutterhead of the "Pioneer No. 1" shield machine slowly broke through the wall from the portal. The section between Jidi Road Station and the intermediate ventilation shaft on Hongwei River of Section 101 of the West Extension Project of Line 13, constructed by China Railway No. 2 Engineering Group, was successfully completed.

The upbound line of this section starts from Jidi Road Station, runs in a straight line beneath Jihong Road, passes Erhe Bridge, goes under Hongwei River Bridge, and passes beneath the bank pile foundation of North Youyi River. The single-track length is 734.4 meters, the horizontal curve radius of the section is R=5000 meters, and the maximum gradient is 21‰. The section adopts a new type of pre-embedded socket-type segment construction, with segment outer diameter of 6.6 meters, inner diameter of 5.9 meters, and ring width of 1.2 meters. It is the first mainline metro tunnel in China using new pre-embedded socket-type joints.

During construction, the First Branch Company, together with the participating units, consistently adhered to the concept of standardized construction, organized management personnel for analysis meetings on multiple occasions, consolidated the foundation of management work, and improved the standardization and normalization of basic management. They comprehensively reviewed and revised the job responsibilities, operating procedures, rules and regulations of each unit, strengthened accountability, and ensured standardized operations. A technical task force for socket-type segments was established, aiming at process technology innovation, tackling production bottlenecks, and ensuring production capacity, effectively safeguarding construction and production.

Next, the First Branch Company will continue to strengthen its ability to deliver on target milestones, persist in controlling quality and site management from the source, start with details and focus on key measures, continuously improve the quality management system, refine quality target responsibilities, and keep advancing quality standardization assessments for all staff, the entire process, and all aspects, effectively fortifying the defense line for safety and quality management.

The West Extension Project of Shanghai Rail Transit Line 13, as a component of the urban rail transit network, opens up a new rapid route for the connection between the Hongqiao Business District and the city center as well as the Pudong New Area through its connection with the earlier phase of Line 13. It can reduce the pressure of large passenger flows at the National Exhibition and Convention Center and better enhance the rail transit service level in the Hongqiao area.
