On November 7, good news came from the Tianfu Renshou Avenue, the southern extension of Chengdu's Tianfu Avenue: the Z2 line of the Fengziding Tunnel in the Er'e Mountain section achieved breakthrough, meaning both tunnels along the entire section are now fully connected, laying a solid foundation for the whole line to open to traffic next year.

Breakthrough of the Z2 line of the Fengziding Tunnel

Tianfu Renshou Avenue is a key project in accelerating the overall layout of the 'one pole, one axis, one block' in the Sichuan portion of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone—specifically the 'one pole,' the Chengdu metropolitan area growth pole—and in building Renshou County's comprehensive three-dimensional transportation network of 'five expressways, five railways, five verticals and five horizontals.' It has a total length of 38.6 kilometers. The Er'e Mountain section under construction is 12.459 kilometers long, with a design speed of 80 km/h; the embankment section has eight lanes in both directions with a total width of 45.5 meters and a 9-meter-wide landscaped median; the tunnel section is designed as four bores with eight lanes in both directions.

It is understood that the eight one-way tunnels, totaling 10.5 kilometers, are the bottleneck works of the entire project schedule. Since construction began, the contractor has combined advanced geological forecasting and monitoring measurement data to establish a full-tunnel intelligent monitoring system, achieving intelligent, visualized and dynamic management of key areas at the tunnel face and high-risk points in critical processes, greatly improving the level of tunnel safety and quality control. As of now, all tunnels in this section have been fully connected.

After Tianfu Renshou Avenue opens to traffic, it will connect with Tianfu Avenue, allowing a direct southward drive from Chengdu to Renshou county seat and bringing convenience to residents of both places. At the same time, the convenient transportation will further improve Renshou County's locational advantages, accelerate its full integration into Chengdu's coordinated urban development, speed up the release of county-level resources such as space, distinctive industries and ecological development, and drive high-quality economic and social development in Renshou County.
